This grant supports nonprofit organizations in North Carolina that provide equine-assisted therapy to individuals with physical, mental, and emotional conditions.

Nonprofit Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT) Program Grant and Scholarship - North Carolina Horse Council Nonprofit Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT) Program Grant and Scholarship Equine-assisted therapy is a method of therapy that uses horses as a tool to help individuals with physical, mental and emotional conditions gain confidence and work through the healing process.

The bond that is formed between the horse and the client is often a strong one that helps the client process feelings, gain skills and ameliorate fears. The new grant category will require the applicants to have 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service. Some grant programs are also open to educational institutions and government entities.

Applicants must be located in North Carolina and must have been operating for at least one year. Credentials of employees or volunteer instructors/therapist will also be required.

The grant applicant must agree to use the money for purposes of equine assisted therapy, such as scholarships and financial aid for patients, riding apparel and equipment, and or equipment necessary for the clients to be able to participate in basic horse activities. Some grant may be awarded for research projects that deal with equine assisted therapy.

Finally, some grants may go for physical construction projects necessary for the safety of the clients and horses.
