The Foundation has clear rules for eligibility that you should familiarize yourself with prior to beginning a grant application.
These parameters help us ensure that our organization and our grantees are fundamentally aligned. You can learn more about our mission here , and about our funding portfolio here . You must be a 501(c)(3) charity in good standing.
The Foundation distributes grants only to qualified public entities or organizations exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation does not support other private foundations or commercial businesses, nor does it make loans or grants to individuals. Your programming must serve North Texas communities.
Organizations must serve residents (companion animals, children, youth and their families) of Dallas-Fort Worth. Because the need is so great within North Texas, grants will not be awarded to programs that serve constituencies outside of North Texas — even if a program falls within one of The Foundation’s portfolio areas. International requests are invitation-only.
While we do partner with select international Christian organizations, this is done on an invitation-only basis and grant applications for international programs will not be considered. Your programming must align with our mission and funding portfolio. We are a highly mission-focused Foundation and have clearly defined funding portfolios.
We are deeply passionate about the tenets of these portfolios and are adept at working with North Texas charities that operate in these areas. Our application process, from initial submission through funding and reporting. Register for the Grantee Portal A portal login is required to submit Letters of Inquiry, Applications, and Grantee Reports.
Submit a Letter of Inquiry If your organization has not received funding from us previously, or you received funding but are requesting funding for a program not previously supported, you should submit a Letter of Inquiry . Receive an Invitation to Apply If your program is a good fit based on information provided in the Letter of Inquiry, you will receive an invitation via email to submit a full application.
Please allow 30 days for notification of an invitation or a decline. If you’re a prospective grantee that has been invited to apply, you will see the pending application in the portal where it can be completed. If you’re a returning grantee, you are welcome to submit a new grant application once your current grant term ends and the final report has been submitted.
Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by a member of our staff. They will contact you once the due diligence phase begins. Timing for staff review is contingent upon eligibility and staff availability.
Plan for four months between application submission and staff review. Our board meets 10 times per year and grantees are typically notified if their grant is approved within two days of the board’s decision. If approved, within 15 days of being notified of your grant award, you will receive a grant contract via email that must be signed by your organization’s CEO and board chair.
Review the contract carefully, as it will contain grant stipulations, our Communication Policy , grant goals, and grant reporting deadlines and instructions. Receive Payment Disbursement Within 15 days of us receiving the signed contract, your payment will be disbursed via wire transfer.
Conditional grants and some multi-year grants may receive delayed disbursements once conditions are met; all specifics will be outlined in your grant contract. Submit a Final Grantee Report All grants require the submission of at least one report . However, your grant may require interim reports throughout the grant term.
