The National Science Foundation expects to fund a single organization up to $35 million over five years to stand up the permanent operations infrastructure for the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR).
Building on the NAIRR Pilot, which supported more than 600 research projects and 6,000 students across all 50 states, the Operations Center will coordinate access to compute, datasets, pre-trained models, platforms, and educational resources to democratize AI research nationwide. Letters of intent were due December 15, 2025, with full proposals due February 4, 2026.
