Home Visitation Services | Maricopa County, AZ Maricopa County Department of Public Health offers two evidence-based home visitation programs to serve the needs of pregnant and parenting families in Maricopa County. If you enroll in one of our programs, a specially trained nurse will visit you in the comfort of your home during the perinatal period and beyond. Children don’t come with instruction manuals after all.
Let our nurses support you on your parenting journey. How will having a nurse help? Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Build a strong network of support for you and your baby. Make your home a safe place for your baby to live and play. Get referrals for healthcare, childcare, job training and other support services available in your community.
Find ways to continue your education and develop job skills. Set goals for your family’s future and find ways to help you reach them. Discussion of pregnancy discomforts and concerns.
Learn about pregnancy and child developmental milestones. Support in breastfeeding, feeding, and caring for your infant and child. Receive child development information and developmental screenings.
Activities to help early childhood development. Ways to promote school readiness. Building positive parent-child relationships.
Tools for managing stress. Get answers to your pregnancy and parenting questions. Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Nurse-Family Partnership provides in-home visits with a specially trained Registered Nurse beginning before the 28th week of pregnancy to families who live in NFP service areas and meet income requirements .
While NFP focuses on first-time mothers, there is no age restriction to enroll. NFP has been proven to improve birth outcomes, including low birth weight and pre-term birth. Visits with your NFP Nurse Home Visitor can continue until your child turns 2 years old.

Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-Visiting (MECSH) MECSH (pronounced “mesh”) is the newest home visitation program at MCDPH and offers pregnant and parenting clients home visits with a specially trained Registered Nurse. MECSH started in Australia over twenty years ago and focuses on child health and development as well as maternal and family wellbeing.
MECSH clients do not have to be first-time mothers, and families can enroll at any point during pregnancy and up to 8 weeks postpartum. Home visits with your MECSH nurse can continue until your child’s 3rd birthday, and there is no income eligibility requirement for MECSH clients. Enrollment in home visitation services is free and voluntary.
