Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program

Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program is sponsored by Alabama Board of Nursing. This program is for Alabama residents who are enrolled full-time in accredited nursing education programs approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing and pursuing graduate degrees to become a nursing educator, or who graduated from such a program within the previous five years.

Nursing Education Loan – Alabama Board of Nursing Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program is available for Alabama residents who either are enrolled full-time in accredited nursing education programs approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing and pursuing graduate degrees to become a nursing educator or who graduated from such a program within the previous five (5) years.

The maximum amount of the loan is $15,000, and the loan monies are allocated to the Board from the Alabama Education Trust Fund on a fiscal year basis (October 1 through September 30). If you are interested and meet the requirements for the Loan Repayment Program, we encourage you to proceed with the application. Completed applications must be received on or before the due date to be considered.

Note that this Loan Repayment Program is scheduled to end September 30, 2029, unless continued by the Alabama Legislature. For more information, see Chapter 610-X-16, Loan Repayment Program for Nursing Education Nurses who receive a Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program award must practice as a nurse educator in an Alabama two-year or four-year prelicensure nursing education program for 24 months per Loan received.

Employment as a nursing educator must commence within six months of completion of the graduate nursing program or within six months of receipt of the Loan if the recipient has already earned a graduate nursing degree.

Loan Recipient Employment Verification In order to satisfy the conditions of the Loan Repayment Program, recipients must verify full-time employment by a pre-licensure nursing education program in Alabama for 24 months following completion of the graduate degree or receipt of Loan funds if the graduate degree has been awarded within the past five years.

Participants must have their employer complete an Employment Verification form no later than 6 months following their acceptance of their loan award, or graduation, whichever comes later. All recipients must also submit a Semi-Annual Employment Verification form every six (6) months for a period of 24 months. Recipients will upload the completed employment verifications into their My Profile for review by the ABN.
