Delft researchers receive NWO grant under the KIC Space technology programme Delft researchers receive NWO grant under the KIC Space technology programme The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded over 5. 3 million euros in funding within the KIC call ‘Robust and resilient space infrastructure for a safe Netherlands’. Through co-funding, a further 1.
5 million will be contributed by companies and other organisations. Through these projects, this KIC research programme is promoting research into robust, secure and strategically deployable space technologies. In this way, it contributes to maintaining and strengthening the Netherlands’ technological and scientific capacity within the space sector.

J. Groot - Radboud University Modern society is increasingly dependent on space-based infrastructure to support communications, transportation, finance, and many other applications. This infrastructure is increasingly at risk from debris accumulated over decades of space operations, while legacy space traffic management systems struggle to keep pace with rising satellite launches.
Working to modernise systems to support safe space operations, the RSO TraFFIC project seeks to develop new sensor technologies to gather more and higher quality data, novel algorithms to combine and analyse these data, and a cohesive legal and governance framework with which to manage Earth orbit as a shared commons for public benefit. The ARISE project develops technologies for smarter and more resilient satellite systems for Intelligence Surveillance and Recognition (ISR) that can operate reliably under challenging conditions. Researchers work on new antenna technologies, self-aware satellites, and alternatives to GPS. The project also addresses the underlying juridical framework.
ARISE contributes to a safe and resilient space infrastructure that is vital for modern society and the economy.
