Four consortia receive 65 million euro for long-term transdisciplinary research | NWO Within this research programme, consortia were free to propose their own research topics, provided they aligned with one or more of the Dutch government’s Knowledge and Innovation Agendas. As a result, the four awarded projects are very diverse.
From the use of systems inspired by the efficiency of the human brain for ultra-fast, energy-efficient data processing and the effective deployment of new AI tools for the Dutch healthcare sector, to the development of a national centre for the robotisation of physical labour.
These ten-year projects have the potential to make significant strides in their research fields and initiate new developments that will ultimately address urgent societal challenges. Through the KIC long-term programmes, NWO is providing a powerful boost to various fields of research, thereby stimulating economic and societal innovation across multiple sectors. Trinitas HORIZON - Dr. S.
Haitjema, UMC Utrecht Healthcare in the Netherlands is under growing pressure due to an ageing population, more people with multiple conditions, and rising demand for diagnostics. This makes it harder for GPs to identify what diagnostic trajectory patients need quickly and accurately.
The Trinitas HORIZON project will develop an AI-supported diagnostic platform that brings together all patient information and helps GPs make better decisions faster. By enabling a “first-time-right” diagnosis, the platform aims to reduce unnecessary testing, shorten waiting times, and keep healthcare accessible, affordable, and effective for both patients and professionals. dr. It tackles three problems: treating the “average rather than individual” patient, staff and workflows under pressure and rising costs, and innovations that rarely reach practice. We create secure data connections, design AI with patients, healthcare and AI professionals, test what works in real care, and create clear routes for approval, implementation, procurement and payment.
Results include earlier detection, more personalised treatment, less paperwork, better use of staff time, faster drug development cycle, and reliable and responsible AI tools that can be used, sustain and paid for. Prof. dr. ir. A.

(Beatriz) Noheda, University of Groningen Today’s computers consume enormous amounts of energy, especially for data-intensive applications like AI, autonomous systems, and healthcare. Neuromorphic technologies—computing systems inspired by how the brain processes information—offer a way to make computing much more energy-efficient.
10X-Factor(y) brings together universities, companies, and innovators to accelerate research and real-world use of these technologies. By exchanging knowledge, sharing facilities, developing prototypes, and training the next generation of experts, the initiative will help businesses adopt sustainable, intelligent computing solutions more easily.
