NYC Civic Impact Funding (CIF)

NYC Civic Impact Funding (CIF) is sponsored by NYC Service, Office of the Mayor. This initiative funds nonprofit and community-based organizations to engage volunteers and strategically scale services to residents in neighborhoods with high levels of health and socioeconomic disparities.

NYC Civic Impact Funding (CIF) is an initiative by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor, designed to deepen and expand civic engagement through volunteer and service programs. CIF aims to create sustainable change for the City’s greatest needs by uniting New Yorkers in service to advance lifelong civic engagement for a more equitable and inclusive city.

CIF funds nonprofit and community-based organizations up to $10,000 to engage volunteers and strategically scale services to residents in neighborhoods with high levels of health and socioeconomic disparities.

To support these efforts, NYC Service provides comprehensive assistance, including funding, capacity-building resources, and strategic guidance, helping organizations effectively engage volunteers and expand essential services in high-need communities.

CIF prioritizes neighborhoods experiencing high levels of health and socioeconomic disparities, identified through citywide equity-focused initiatives such as the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity (TRIE) and Every Block Counts.

* Magnify services provided to residents in high-need communities through volunteer engagement. * Empower organizations and residents in TRIE neighborhoods to address their most pressing issues through volunteerism. * Support volunteer-powered solutions to pressing local challenges.

* Strengthen community ties. ## **Eligibility Criteria:** * Operate in at least one TRIE neighborhood (a list of TRIE neighborhoods can be found online at https://www. nyc.

gov/site/trie/about/neighborhoods.

page) * Hold a current 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status * Use funding exclusively to support NYC-based volunteer and civic engagement efforts in high-need communities ## **What CIF funding CAN be used for:** * Hiring staff to build capacity for volunteer recruitment and management * Covering costs for supplies and food (e.g., appreciation dinners and recognition events) for volunteers * Offering volunteer stipends (e.g., MetroCard) to offset costs, ensuring volunteers can continue their service * Providing volunteer training setup and materials ## **What CIF funding CANNOT be used for:** * General organizational or program operating costs.

While funding can be used to cover staff or consultant that support volunteer recruitment and management, no more than 50% of proposed budget can be used to cover salaries for staff and consultants * Office furniture/equipment, general operating costs (e.g. rent, insurance, and/or utilities), and general administration fees ## Last Year's Highlights **In 2025, NYC Civic Impact Funding recipients engaged 4,523 volunteers, served 389,491 residents, and contributed 19,184 volunteer hours.
