Limitless Opportunities for Children with Hearing Loss The Oberkotter Foundation helps families ensure their children who are deaf or hard of hearing have opportunities to reach their full potential through listening and spoken language. One family’s hearing loss journey became a lasting legacy of hope and inspiration for thousands of children with hearing loss and their families.
We are led by a passionate team of thinkers, leaders, and doers committed to driving change and fulfilling the Foundation’s mission. Born into a family bursting with jazz musicians, gospel singers, and music lovers of all kinds, CiCi seemed predestined to have a passion for music.
When her parents learned their newborn baby was profoundly deaf, their dreams for her became less clear until they discovered Listening and Spoken Language (LSL). CiCi grew up to be a confident young woman and accomplished dancer. Hear how early identification, quality pediatric audiology, and LSL intervention changed her life forever.
CiCi’s is just one of the stories in the LSL Life series by Hearing First, an initiative of the Oberkotter Foundation. The docuseries offers a look at the amazing goals families have accomplished when they use LSL. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of all children who are deaf or hard of hearing so they can reach their full potential.
We fund initiatives that empower families and equip professionals with the information and resources they need. Expectant and New Moms Informed An awareness campaign informs soon-to-be parents that hearing is important for their baby’s development and defines next steps after a newborn hearing screening.
Professionals Registered for Learning Free courses focused on evidence-based protocols in Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) and pediatric audiology help professionals up level their practice. Families and Professionals Connected Community, connection, learning, resources, and more shared with families of children with hearing loss and the professionals who serve them.
Guided by the latest in science and driven by the promise of what’s possible, the Foundation believes the narrative can be rewritten for every child with hearing loss. Our focus areas aim to improve listening, spoken language, and literacy outcomes for all children who are deaf or hard of hearing across the United States.

Starts Hear Campaign Marks Five Years of Raising Awareness of the Newborn Hearing Screening Hearing First, an initiative of the Oberkotter Foundation, shares results from Year Five of the campaign dedicated to educating expectant moms about newborn hearing and next steps after failed screening.
