On-Farm Efficiency Program (OFEP) | Municipal District of Peace | CiviKit On-Farm Efficiency Program (OFEP) As of April 1, the On-Farm Efficiency Program (OFEP) has re-opened for applications. The intent of the OFEP is to support producers in achieving environmental benefits by improving the efficient use of agricultural inputs.
The Program funds primary producers to carry out projects that optimize the use of inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides, and energy. When inputs reach their targets with precision, it is a win-win for producers and the environment: producers save money, fewer inputs are applied off-target, and fewer emissions are released to the atmosphere.
Eligible expenses are funded at a cost-share rate of 50%, except insulation which is funded per square footage as stated in the Funding List. The funding maximum per applicant is $150,000 over the duration of the Program. The program has 4 Streams.
The maximum funding per Stream over the duration of the program is: • $50,000 for Smart Farm Technology • $50,000 for Energy Efficiency • $2,000 for Farm Security • $100,000 for Efficient Grain Handling. For some Eligible Items, there is a maximum grant stated in the Funding List. An Eligible Applicant may apply to any or all of the Program Streams.

Emerging Opportunities Program (Sustainable CAP) is a grant from the Alberta Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation that funds innovation and capacity expansion in Alberta's value-added agriculture and bio-industrial sectors. Projects may include new technologies, best practices, significant capacity expansions, and new builds that drive company growth and sector impact. Awards are up to $1,000,000 per fiscal year with a project maximum of $2,000,000. Eligible applicants are agriculture or bio-industrial processors with a minimum $2 million total project investment, and industry organizations registered and operating in Alberta. Special consideration is given to Indigenous applicants.
Growing Greenhouses Program is a grant from the Alberta Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation that funds construction and expansion of commercial-scale greenhouses and vertical farms in Alberta. The program supports year-round availability of locally grown food by accelerating growth in Alberta's controlled environment agriculture sector. Funded activities include construction of new greenhouses and projects that increase the productivity of existing operations. Grants range from $2,000,000 to $4,000,000. Eligible applicants are Alberta-registered corporations, partnerships, or cooperatives that own or intend to operate a commercial-scale greenhouse or vertical farm. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis until funding is allocated.
