The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation awarded $2,315,000 in 2026 invitational grants to 25 Virginia nonprofits, bringing its total contributions to more than $120 million. The grants focus on providing vital operating support to organizations dedicated to “giving a leg up” to under-resourced populations with a primary focus on Loudoun County.
“Our 2026 grants cover a wide range of services, including education programs inside and outside of schools, mental health services, addiction recovery, and support for individuals in our community living with disabilities or who are neurodivergent,” stated Executive Director John H. Cook IV. “As we have for almost 40 years, we support nonprofit organizations that build resiliency and help people create a better quality of life.

The Claude Moore Scholars grants will be announced in late spring. The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation is a private philanthropy established in 1987 by Dr. Claude Moore, who grew up in poverty and, through hard work and frugality, became a successful physician and landowner. His philosophy of providing a “leg up, not a handout” continues to guide the foundation in its giving decisions.
