Orange County Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSSP)

Orange County Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSSP) is sponsored by Orange County (paid for by federal grants). The FSSP provides tuition-free accelerated learning in over 30 trades. It is made possible through partnerships with Valencia College and Orange Technical College and aims to remove barriers to education by also offering support for rent, utilities, and childcare.

Tuition assistance is available for vocational training, post-secondary education, and state certification that will enable residents to obtain and retain employment.

U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident Income eligible (Federal Poverty Guidelines) Employment seekers who are unemployed or underemployed and available to participate in vocational training within 90 days of enrollment All applicants will need the following documents before completing the application: Photo I. The Family Self-Sufficiency program is designed to prepare individuals for careers by providing tuition assistance for employment training programs (vocational, post-secondary education and state/national certifications). You should be an employment seeker who is unemployed and seeking employment or under-employed seeking to increase employment wages. Do I have to meet all eligibility requirements to participate?

Yes. The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is a grant-funded program that requires eligibility criteria to be met before providing services. How do I know if my application was received?

When you have successfully completed the online application and uploaded all of the required documents, you will receive an application confirmation with an online identification number. You should save the identification number for your records. How long is the application review process?

The application review and determination process could take up to 5-days business days after submission, if all required documents were submitted with the online application. Incomplete applications and documents could delay or terminate the application process. To be eligible for this program, participants must meet program eligibility criteria, submit required documentation and fall within the family income guidelines.

All required information must be provided in the career survey before a Caseworker can make contact to complete the eligibility screening process. Any incomplete request will not be considered. Due to COVID-19, our offices are not conducting face-to-face interviews.

m. Employment Assistance Information A Vocational Specialist is located at various Neighborhood Center for Families locations throughout Orange County. A Vocational Specialist assists residents with obtaining employment through job club classes, resume development, job search assistance, and direct employment referrals.

Neighborhood Centers for Families . Computers are available to the community to assist residents with their educational goals, access job posting, increase their computer skills and access other computer related resources. The Computer labs are located throughout Orange County at various Community Centers and Neighborhood Centers for Families locations.
