2026 applications will be available in February 2026. East Tennessee educators, how can ORAU help meet the needs of your classroom? Through ORAU Education Grants, that’s how.
Educators in a handful of East Tennessee counties—Anderson, Campbell, Morgan, Roane and Scott—are invited annually to submit proposals to fund STEM programs. Through these grants, ORAU provides crucial support to enhance teachers’ science, technology, engineering and math lesson plans for the upcoming school year. Projects are funded based on quality, educational enrichment, creativity, and available funds.
Funding decisions are made by a committee that includes former classroom educators. Awards will be announced before the end of the school year and recipients will be notified by email. Questions should be directed to Amber Davis, who can be reached at (865) 340-2239 or amber.

We also sponsor the annual Extreme Classroom Makeover competition , K-12 summer programs for students , and STEM educator professional development programs .

Utilizing 3D Printers to Level Up Your Science Education Waterwise: Environmental Problem-Solving Wildly Fun Animal Observers with Zoo Knoxville Extreme Classroom Makeover ORAU awards more than $30,000 in STEM teaching materials to local schools ORAU awards more than $30,000 in STEM teaching materials to local schools in 2025 Eight teachers from schools in Anderson, Roane and Scott counties received support for innovative projects.
From kindergarten sensory labs to high school robotics, and from spatial learning tools to drones, ORAU is equipping educators with cutting-edge resources to meet evolving statewide curriculum standards. East Tennessee teachers, how can we help? Since 2002, ORAU has funded more than $580,000 in grants to area schools for projects that support ORAU’s mission of enriching STEM education programs.
Previous grant recipients have purchased iPads, laptops, 3D printers, robotics kits, virtual reality headsets, and other technology to complement classroom instruction. A September 18, 2026 proclamation renews the $100,000 H-1B payment through September 21, 2027. Courts have blocked collection since June. The cap-exempt carve-out that protects universities from the DHS fee rule does not appear here — and that gap decides how grant-funded labs should hire.
