Brown, whose dedication to research, innovation and contributions to orthopaedics have benefited millions of patients. * Preference will be given to proposals studying innovative technologies with expected clinical benefits.
The PI must be an early-stage investigator defined as a researcher who has completed their terminal research degree or post-graduate clinical training within the past 10 years and has not previously competed successfully for an R01 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant or its equivalent (e.g., VA, DOD, and NSF) in the role of PI.
Early-Stage investigators who have demonstrated a sustained interest in research and excellence in their training are encouraged to apply. Applications may be submitted by domestic non-profit, public and private institutions of higher education, such as hospitals, medical schools, universities, and colleges. Multidisciplinary research activity is strongly encouraged.

May I apply for more than one grant in a grant cycle? As a Principal Investigator (PI), you may apply in only one category per cycle. This restriction does not apply to Co-PI status or to applicants to the Mentored Clinician Scientist Grant.
A PI may submit only one (1) LOI in a grant cycle. Who can apply for an OREF grant? OREF invites applications for funding for qualified, clinically relevant orthopaedic research projects.
Specific eligibility requirements for each grant are listed in the grant descriptions. OREF strongly encourages the submission of well-crafted basic, translational and clinical studies. Clinical relevance must be clearly noted in the abstract and specific aims and be obvious from the title and the study design.
