They give Veterans the opportunity for rehabilitation and recovery in a supportive community environment. Renee Gorr serves as the Director of Residential Programs and Services at the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs. With over a decade of leadership experience in behavioral health and senior care, she is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Connecticut’s veteran community.
Prior to joining the DVA, Renee held leadership roles at Bristol Hospital, where she directed behavioral health services and community education initiatives. She holds a degree in Corporate Communications and Marketing from Southern Connecticut State University and is certified in crisis prevention and intervention.
Renee is also a long-time volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association, reflecting her deep commitment to advocacy and compassionate care. Find support at our Residential Facility The Veterans Affairs Residential Facility offers temporary, supportive living in a community setting. Our mission is to help Veterans and families obtain the necessary benefits, skills, and resources they need to secure permanent housing.
Veterans at the facility set goals and objectives that will help them successfully return to independent living. Residential Staff work on-site to support all Residential Facility programming. Programs and services at the Residential Facility The Residential Facility offers a variety of rehabilitation services and programs, within a community living environment.
These include, but are not limited to: Employment and education resources Social work and case management Other supportive services and programs Stay in supportive housing at Patriots Landing Patriots Landing is our residential program that aims to provide a temporary, safe and secure environment for CT’s Veterans, their spouses, and children who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Patriots Landing has five fully furnished single-family homes. Each features: Three bedrooms with bedding Furniture for all living spaces Full kitchen with kitchen supplies In addition to housing, Patriots Landing program provides residents with supportive services enabling them to achieve life goals. To qualify for residential services, you must be a Veteran of the state of Connecticut. That means any person who: Was honorably discharged from, or released under honorable conditions from, active service in the Armed Forces. Is a current resident of CT, or was a resident of CT at the time of enlistment or induction into the Armed Forces.

The SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is a competitive program from Social Capital Inc. that funds youth-led community improvement projects in Greater Boston. Teams of high school students in grades 9 through 12 residing in Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, or Suffolk counties develop project ideas through coaching from local professionals, then pitch their proposals to a live panel of judges. Winning teams receive $1,000 to $2,000 in grant funding to execute their community-strengthening visions. The program builds career skills including public speaking, project management, and team collaboration, while cultivating cross-socioeconomic connections among peers and mentors throughout the region.
The System Innovations Grant (Youth Opportunities Fund) is a multi-year funding opportunity from the Ontario Trillium Foundation that supports collaborative projects working to understand and strengthen systems so they function better for young people. Grants of up to $1,250,000 over five years fund collaboratives of two or more Ontario-based nonprofits aiming to create lasting systemic change that expands opportunities for youth ages 12 to 29, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous, Black, and other racialized youth facing systemic barriers. Eligible applicants are not-for-profit organizations incorporated for at least five years in Ontario with a mandate to serve youth, forming a formal collaborative. Indigenous- and Black-led organizations and collaboratives are prioritized. Applications were due March 11, 2026—check the Ontario Trillium Foundation website for upcoming intake cycles.
