Personal Care Services and Health & Wellness Grant | Downtown Long Beach Alliance Personal Care Services and Health & Wellness Grant Program In response to the devastating effects that COVID-19 has had on our local economy, the Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA) is developing several grant programs to help provide financial relief to our small business community.

The Personal Care Services and Health & Wellness Grant is dedicated to supporting brick-and-mortar businesses within the personal care service and health and wellness industries in Downtown Long Beach. The grant was designed to provide needed financial relief and recovery to small businesses and independent contractors that were temporarily closed due to LA County and City of Long Beach Health Orders.

In total, $90,000 will be made available to small businesses for grants ranging from $1,250 to $4,750 depending on the type of business. The application period will open on Wednesday, July 7 and will run until August 31st or when all funds are exhausted. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Total Grant Funds Available: $90,000 Available Grant Funds per Eligible Business Type: Independent Contractors: $1,250 Personal Care Services Business: $3,250 Fitness & Wellness Business: $4,750 Personal Care Establishments Defined: Hair Salon, Barber Shops, Nail Salon, Spa/Massage (non-healthcare), Tattoo Studios, Body Piercing Studios, Esthetician, Skin Care, Cosmetology Services, Microblading & Permanent Make-up, and Tanning Services.

Fitness & Wellness Defined: Independent Gym, Yoga Studio, Pilates Studio, Spin Studios. Personal care and health & wellness businesses include: hair and beauty salons, nail salons, estheticians, skincare, barbershops, tattoo artists, independently-owned gyms, yoga studios, pilates, and other fitness-related services. Must operate a business within the Downtown Business & Parking Improvement Area (DPBIA) See Map .

Businesses must have been temporarily closed due to LA County and City of Long Beach Health Orders. Must have had an established business license in Downtown prior to March 1, 2020. Must have an active business license with a storefront address.

Must be able to demonstrate major financial hardship because of the Long Beach Health Order impacting their primary business model such as a personal service business like a hair salon, where customers would normally stay indoors for 20 minutes or longer to receive service. Business applicants must be in current operation and cannot be in bankruptcy or permanently closed at the time of the application.

Businesses must be able to provide documentation of financial hardships as a result of COVID-19 or documentation of closures by public health orders. Active City of Long Beach Business License The grant process will be based on self-reporting with the ability of the DLBA to seek verification.

Basic information provided by the business is expected to include: The restrictions provided by the Health Order as it has affected the business over time (i.e. closed for X days; 20% occupancy for X days; outdoors-only for X days) Steps the business took to adjust Revenue and expenditure impact during eligibility period (2020-2021) We are no longer accepting applications.
