Envision Impact Lab Open Call Perspective Fund is excited to launch the Envision Impact Lab (EIL) as a strategic catalyst for field-wide transformation. As a complement to our documentary film and impact infrastructure funding, the Lab represents our commitment to advancing the field through cross-sector learning, innovative experimentation, and the strategic scaling of effective practices across the documentary impact ecosystem.

Emerging technologies, evolving audience behaviors, and new strategic frameworks represent exciting possibilities to revolutionize documentary impact work . We recognize that practitioners like you possess the vision and expertise to develop, test, and scale innovative approaches to impact strategy, audience engagement tools, and measurement methods that can benefit not just individual projects, but the entire field.

The EIL is designed to support you at the forefront of this transformation—moving beyond traditional approaches to pioneering new approaches to audience engagement and social change strategies.

Whether you're developing sophisticated impact campaigns or creating tools that could reshape how the field operates, we aim to provide the essential resources, mentorship, and collaborative community to enable meaningful experimentation and scalable solutions.

The most compelling proposals will demonstrate consideration of the following: Addressing Opportunity Gaps How does your project expand or challenge existing norms in documentary impact work while responding to documented gaps in the field? What specific barriers or unmet needs are you addressing through innovative approaches?

Are you developing, adapting, or creatively applying tools, technologies, or strategic approaches in ways that could enhance how social change is created and sustained through media and storytelling? What calculated approaches does your project pursue that traditional frameworks might not support? How does your methodology test new possibilities that could yield significant advances in impact work?

How might this opportunity help you develop solutions that address structural barriers or competing incentives that currently limit effective impact work across the field? Field Learning Opportunities How could your project generate insights or methodologies that expand understanding and practice within the documentary impact ecosystem and relevant movement communities?

What new possibilities or frameworks could your work establish for the future of media-driven social change? How might your approach be adapted and implemented by others invested in documentary impact work? The EIL is seeking projects through two distinct funding tracks.

For documentary teams ready to pilot innovative approaches during the distribution and dissemination phases of their projects. This track supports filmmakers implementing experimental impact strategies that push beyond traditional campaign methods.

Funding: Major impact campaign funding estimated between $150,000 and $200,000 per film up to three films Eligibility: US-based documentary film teams with completed films or in late-stage production that meet existing Perspective Fund criteria for integration of editorial vision, impact goals, and key audience identification.

Films must not be reliant on any further production fundraising to be viably executed as the Lab funds are prioritized for campaign activities. Impact Tools & Initiatives Track For organizations developing tools, technologies, and initiatives that address critical gaps in the documentary impact ecosystem.

This track focuses on solutions that can benefit the broader field of impact-driven storytelling. Funding: $150,000-$300,000 per project over 2 years per project up to three projects Eligibility : US-based organizations, individuals, or interdisciplinary teams with a clear hypothesis about how their solution will address a demonstrated need in the documentary impact field.

Q: Will you fund content creation or film production? A: No, this track does not fund the creation of documentary content but we will accept proposals that utilize existing material in new ways. Overall, we are looking for innovations that enable better impact work for existing and future documentary films.

Q: What happens after Year 1 if my prototype is successful? A: Successful prototypes may be eligible for Year 2 funding to scale, improve, or expand the solution based on learnings from Year 1. This decision will be made based on prototype performance and potential for broader field impact.

Q: Do I need to be a registered nonprofit to apply? A: No, we will accept applications from nonprofits, for-profits, and fiscally sponsored projects that meet our eligibility criteria and address the Lab's core themes.
