The Peter W. Doerken Foundation funds projects that create systemic change and move women and children toward economic self–sufficiency to reach their highest dreams and potential. The Foundation is a privately funded, 501(c) (3) registered non-profit charitable foundation headquartered in the Los Angeles area of California.

Education programs that provide academic enrichment and opportunities for quality learning. Women Empowerment programs that support leadership development and provide financial stability to women and their families. Youth Support and Enrichment programs that help at-risk youth and young adults achieve self-sufficiency.

The Peter W. Doerken Foundation funds nonprofits that support women and youth in gaining academic support, vocational training, college access and preparation, and additional support to spark and bolster their success. This includes, but is not limited to, secondary and high school education, youth development, youth mentorship, career or workforce development, STEM/STEAM, and financial literacy.

Self-sufficiency begins in a safe, healthy home therefore the foundation funds programs that provide transitional living for students and young adults and those who suffer from home and food insecurity. The organizations we invest in support women and youth with overcoming obstacles created by poverty, racism and other forms of marginalization.

The programs we support have passionate leaders, are community based and offer potential for systemic, sustained change, including the possibility of replication. We seek to fund organizations for whom our grantmaking capacity will make an impact. The Peter W.

Doerken Foundation limits its grants to organizations that we invite to apply. However, we do not discourage you from sharing your ideas with us. When considering the award of grants and scholarships from the Foundation, the selection committee will weigh a variety of factors.

The grant application will be reviewed as well as other eligibility factors, which are as follows: – Organizations must be classified as tax-exempt under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and as public charities, under Section 509(a) of that code; organizations cannot be a private foundation under Section 509 (a). For-profit organizations are not eligible for funding.

– While some unrestricted funding is provided, the Foundation prefers to fund specific projects. The Foundation awards grants and supports programs that have a particular focus on youth education and empowering women in California. The foundation has provided donations to U.S. based organizations that support charities in India.

The Foundation anticipates most grants will be in the $5,000-$50,000 range. Initial grants are not necessarily typical of future grants. The Foundation accepts applications for one-year grants only, with the possibility of renewal grants for extended periods.
