DE-FOA-0003646: Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT) CMEI intends to issue, on behalf of AFFO, a NOFO titled, “Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT). ” This NOFO will seek applications for financial assistance from entities that wish to conduct work in support of AFFO's focus on emerging chemical technologies.

AFFO supports expanding the supply and use of domestic alternative feedstocks to improve supply chain resiliency of U.S. chemical production and to expand domestic manufacturing through technology innovation to lower costs and improve environmental safety of chemical production.

[1] Through this NOFO, AFFO seeks to support research, development, and scale-up of novel technologies for producing chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks.

Chemicals of interest include foundational molecules that can be further transformed into high-value end-products, chemical compounds or derivatives generated either from these foundational molecules or directly from alternative feedstocks through process intensification, as well as final end-products.

This NOFO will aim to support work involving chemicals that offer advantages in terms of performance or cost, or that offer benefits to America’s foreign trade or national security. The proposed chemicals can be either conventional or bio-advantaged chemicals. Conventional chemicals must possess added benefits like improved domestic supply chain resiliency, reduced U.S. imports, reduced cost, or large market growth potential.

Bio-advantaged chemicals must possess favorable properties—such as enhanced durability, production efficiency, or decreased toxicity—that create new value propositions. DE-FOA-0003573: Request for Information (RFI) Industrial Technology Capital Connector The United States (U.S.) Department of Energy (DOE)’s Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) is issuing this RFI to notify parties of its potential interest in initiating the Industrial Technology Capital Connector (ITCC), a partnering program to connect private sector capital interested in early-stage industrial technologies with CMEI-supported technology developers.

DOE seeks input from all stakeholders through this RFI to gauge the interest in and to inform the overall design of the ITCC. The following questions focus on the role of Capital Providers (Venture Capital, Angel Investors, Financial Institutions, etc.) and adjacent organizations (Incubators, Accelerators, Venture Studios, etc.) and how CMEI’s programs in industrial technologies and ITCC can better serve these communities.

Responses are not required for all categories or questions; please answer those for which relevant information can be provided. Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to ITCC@ee. doe.

Critical minerals and materials (CMM) are the building blocks for technologies foundational to U.S. energy dominance, national security, and industrial competitiveness.

To build a secure domestic supply of CMMs, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) aims to support collaborative industry partnerships to prototype and pilot innovative processing technologies that are currently only proven at the bench scale to address CMM challenges in high impact areas.

The CMM Accelerator program will advance these mid-stage innovations through validation, benchmarking, access to national lab test beds, testing in industry relevant environments, technoeconomic analysis, and life-cycle assessment. The program establishes a pipeline to support technology maturation to ultimately unlock private capital investments.

It also will leverage other DOE lab-based activities, such as the Critical Materials Innovation Hub (CMI Hub) and the Minerals to Materials Supply Chain Research Facility (METALLIC). Technologies resulting from the program are expected to have a path to domestic commercialization within 3-7 years. ​ This NOFO has 3 Topic Areas, and is further divided into sub-topics for Topic Areas 1 and 3.
