Grant Programs for Pollution Prevention | US EPA Grant Programs for Pollution Prevention Pollution Prevention Grant Funding Pollution Prevention (P2) grants provide technical assistance to businesses in order to help them develop and adopt source reduction practices (also known as “pollution prevention” or “P2”).

P2 means reducing or eliminating pollutants from entering any waste stream or otherwise released into the environment prior to recycling , treatment , or disposal . In keeping with the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, EPA uses these grants to encourage P2 because implementing these approaches can result in reductions in toxic pollutants, the use of water, energy and other raw materials, while also lowering business costs.

P2 grants are awarded to states, state entities (colleges and universities recognized as instrumentalities of the state), the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, any territory or possession of the U.S., and federally recognized Tribes and intertribal consortia.

Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice Through Safer and More Sustainable Products ≈ $8 million 2 years None States and Tribes 2 For state and tribal programs to provide P2 technical assistance to businesses to improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities by increasing the supply, demand, and use of safer and more sustainable products, such as those certified by the EPA's Safer Choice label or those that conform to the EPA's Recommendations for Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing (EPA Recommendations) .

Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products $100 million 5 years None Businesses that manufacture, remanufacture, and/or refurbish construction materials and products, and U.S. states and territories, Indian Tribes, and nonprofits Funded by Inflation Reduction Act To support businesses that manufacture construction materials and products to develop and verify Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and to states, Indian Tribes, and nonprofit organizations that will support such businesses.

Source Reduction Assistance Grant $1. 5 million 2 years 5% States, Tribes, local governments, and non-profits 3 Fund projects that support research, education and/or training of innovative source reduction techniques.

1 Federally-recognized Tribes and intertribal consortia that receive a P2 grant award and place the approved workplan into a performance partnership grant (PPG) will have their cost share/match requirement reduced from fifty percent to zero.
