The City will reimburse trash container screening projects at 50% of the construction costs, up to $100 maximum reimbursement. The appraised value of the home must be $450,000 or less for 2025 and must be located in Prairie Village. The home must be zoned R-1A, R-1B, or R-2.
The improvements must be in conformance with the Prairie Village Municipal Code. In order to qualify, the property must be owner-occupied. Property owners must be current on all property taxes in Prairie Village, and the property must be free of code violations.
Residential Exterior Grant Program This grant is provided by Prairie Village through the City's Economic Development Fund to encourage homeowners to invest in their properties by making attractive improvements to building exteriors. The City will provide a 25% match for exterior improvements that enhance front curb appeal for one- and two-family dwellings with a minimum $2,000 investment by the property owner.
Reimbursement amounts from the City will be a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $3,500. Eligible homes can be located anywhere within City boundaries and must have a Johnson County appraised value of $450,000 or less for 2025. The Residential Exterior Grant can be used in conjunction with the Sustainability Grant (but one project cannot be funded by both programs).
There is a limit of one grant per property every ten years. Residential Sustainability Grant Program The purpose of the Residential Sustainability Grant program is to encourage residents to reduce their carbon footprint by improving the energy efficiency of their homes.

Energy-saving improvements must meet the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code and/or the attached project specifications, whichever results in the greatest energy efficiency. HOME Program - County Assistance Program - Johnson County Human Services This program's goals are to address health and safety concerns, accessibility for persons with disabilities, weatherization, and correcting lead-based paint. Inspections include walls, floors, roof, foundation, plumbing, sewer, electrical, furnace, water heater, doors, windows, and guardrails.
Home conditions will also be inspected to get the home close to the most current building codes. This program provides a deferred payment loan at 0% interest, and is forgiven 10% per year for 10 years, after which the loan is completely forgiven. The Minor Home Rehabilitation Program assists eligible Johnson County homeowners with home repairs and provides limited accessibility modifications for eligible persons with a disability.
Home Remodeling Loan Program - MidAmerica Regional Council Energy-Efficient Upgrades Make Sense The Mid-America Regional Council's (MARC) Home Remodeling Loan Program was created in 2006 by MARC's First Suburbs Coalition, a group of inner-ring suburbs in the Kansas City metro area.
Many homeowners in these communities love their neighborhoods and want to stay in their homes, but also want some of the modern amenities often found in newer construction. MARC Home Remodeling Loan Program Details: Special discounted rate applies to MARC Home Remodeling Loan Program Loan amounts from $5,000 up to $30,000 Flexible terms from 1 to 10 years (see Note 1 ) Fixed-rate, home equity loans with a one-time advance Tax-assessed value of the home must not exceed $250,000 Interest may be tax-deductible (see Note 2 ) Borrowers must qualify per CommunityAmerica lending standards Borrowers must reside in a participating community For residents of Prairie Village (and 32 other participating communities), a low-interest, fixed-rate home equity loan through MARC's Home Remodeling Loan Program can help you make easy, energy-efficient upgrades to your home that will save you energy and money.
MARC developed the loan program with CommunityAmerica Credit Union. These loans can be used for a wide variety of home renovation projects, which include: adding insulation, window and door replacement, energy-efficient appliance upgrades, plumbing and electrical work, and even add-ons such as new rooms, decks, porches, and fences.
According to ENERGY STAR: A skilled contractor could save you up to $1,000 on your heating and cooling costs over five years by better sealing and insulating your home. Increase the savings by upgrading to an ENERGY STAR furnace and air conditioner, and you could save another $1,000 on heating and cooling over the same time period. Upgrading your 1990s refrigerator to an ENERGY STAR model could save you $315 over five years.
You could save up to $900 over five years by replacing two older toilets with high-efficiency models. If your washing machine is at least 10 years old, upgrading to a high-efficiency model could save you $675 over five years. MARC provides online resources to get you started.

Construction Activity - Homes Association Notification Under the terms of the Homes Association Construction Notice Ordinance, home associations registered with the City are notified when the City receives permit applications to: Demolish a residential structure Increase the interior square footage of a residential structure Alter the building footprint of a residential structure Home associations are notified when permits authorizing these projects are issued.
