## Our research priorities **Autism Speaks is committed to supporting research and innovation to improve quality of life across the lifespan. ** This includes deepening our understanding of the biology of autism across its diverse presentations, and translating research findings into practical, life-enhancing solutions.
**A core focus of this work is implementation science**, which examines how evidence-based practices can be effectively adopted and delivered in real-world settings. By prioritizing implementation, we aim to close the gap between discovery and practice—ensuring that research findings can be successfully integrated into healthcare systems and community settings to achieve meaningful and lasting impact.
**We are also invested in collaborating with the autistic community** to ensure research is inclusive, grounded in lived experience and addresses unmet needs.
### **Our strategic priorities for 2024-2026 include:** * Improving our understanding of aging and autism and ability to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life for autistic adults * Enhancing wellbeing and quality of life of autistic people and their families with severe and challenging behaviors and special health care needs * Advancing innovations in service delivery to enhance the global reach and impact of services and support across the lifespan In addition to grants, researchers interested in genetic data can apply for access to**MSSNG or AGRE**.
#### This year's research fellowships: ##### 2026-2027 Predoctoral Fellowship Program for Autistic Scientists Autism Speaks is funding the**2026-2027 Predoctoral Fellowship Program for Autistic Scientists. ** Launched to support and elevate autistic voices in research, this program provides **$40,000 per year for two years** to qualified predoctoral students pursuing careers in autism research.
Funding includes a $28,000 stipend and a $12,000 allowance for research-related expenses. **This fellowship is open to autistic students in research doctoral programs (PhD, ScD, MD/PhD, etc.) with at least two years remaining in their program. Applicants from both U.S. and international institutions are encouraged to apply.

** ###### 2027 AHA Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships The American Heart Association (AHA), in partnership with Autism Speaks, is funding its **2027****Predoctoral****and****Postdoctoral****Fellowships**. This joint initiative supports research at the intersection of autism, cardiovascular health and brain health, with a focus on improving health equity and real-world outcomes for autistic people.
Projects are expected to address critical knowledge gaps in **cardiovascular health and autism**, while incorporating implementation science approaches to improve adoption of interventions in clinical and community settings.

** ###### **2026 Royal Arch Research Assistance Fellowships** Autism Speaks, with generous support from the Royal Arch Research Assistance, will be funding pilot research projects, predoctoral fellowships and postdoctoral fellowships focused on understanding, evaluating and/or treating individuals with **central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), particularly as it relates to autism**. _More information will be provided in the autumn.
