Preserve America Grants - Historic Preservation Fund (U.S. National Park Service) Skip to global NPS navigation Skip to the footer section The Preserve America program seeks to create a greater shared knowledge about the nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of our communities.
The Preserve America program has two parts: grants and community designations. Grant funds from the Historic Preservation Fund were awarded from 2006 to 2009. The Preserve America matching-grant program provided funding to designated Preserve America Communities to support preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic preservation planning.
The program has awarded $21,242,661 to a total of 280 grant projects. Although not currently funded, the program is authorized in legislation. Grants were awarded to designated Preserve America Communities and Neighborhoods, State Historic Preservation Offices, Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, and Certified Local Governments.
The Preserve America grant program is not currently funded . This means that there is no funding available for grants. No application is available for funding because there are no funds to award.
When Will Funding Be Available? Funding for grants under this program will only be available if Congress appropriates money for it. Unless or until this happens, the grant program is not active.
Preserve America Communities The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation designates Preserve America Communities and works with the First Lady to present the Preserve America Presidential Awards. Community designations recognize localities that support preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic preservation planning.
