Professional Science & Engineering Society Fellows Programs - Careers Professional Science & Engineering Society Fellows Programs dn 2026-04-09T10:09:20-04:00 Professional Science & Engineering Society Fellows Programs The United States Department of State Professional Science and Engineering (S&E) Society Fellows Programs enlist bright, inquisitive scientists and engineers with an interest in policy and international affairs to further the diplomacy policies of the United States.
Fellows contribute their science and technology expertise to the policymaking process by working directly in an office at the U.S. Department of State. The Professional S&E Society Fellows Programs were established beginning in 2001 by the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State to support the goal of strengthening the science and technology expertise of the Department.
Fellows are members of the sponsoring societies, which currently include the American Institute of Physics (AIP) [added in 2001], the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) [added in 2002], and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) [added in 2022]. Salaries and benefits are paid by the societies.
