Payment Assistance Programs Payment Assistance Programs We care about helping our neighbors in need. There are several programs and tools available to assist customers who are having trouble paying their power bill. Explore the options below to see if you are eligible.

Community Action Agencies Energy Assistant helps connect families with financial assistance when they need it most. By answering a few anonymous questions, you can learn about the available energy assistance options and how to connect with them. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program LIHEAP helps low-income households pay for heating and cooling costs from November through May.

Applications are made through local community action agencies, with assistance available in select Alabama counties. Benefits. gov is an online resource to help you find federal benefits you may be eligible for in Alabama.

Special Needs Assistance Programs We offer programs for customers with special needs, including alternate payment dates for those who rely on monthly government checks. Braille and large-print bills, as well as telecommunications services for the deaf, are also available.

Low Income Assistance Programs Customers receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid for Low Income Families (MLIF) may qualify for discounts. These include $14. 50 toward the customer charge and exemption from certain state utility license tax fees.

In partnership with the Salvation Army, Project SHARE helps low-income Alabamians who are 60+ or disabled pay winter energy bills. In summer, those with medical emergencies may also qualify if funds are available. Apply at your local Salvation Army office or by calling 205-328-2420 .

The Alabama Business Charitable Trust Fund Created by Alabama Power stockholders in 1992, the nonprofit ABC Trust supports energy assistance for low-income families and those facing temporary financial hardship. It works with local community action agencies to help cover heating and cooling costs. Customers can apply through their county agency.

The Energy Assistance portal is a tool that is free for agencies and churches, as well as public and private charitable organizations, to use while assisting Alabama Power customers with their energy costs.
