Apply for a public transportation grant | WSDOT Public transportation grants Apply for a public transportation grant Apply for a public transportation grant Below you'll find information for prospective applicants for state and federal grants administered by WSDOT's Public Transportation Division. Grants are funded on a biennial (two-year) basis, though some grant programs may fund projects on a four-year cycle.
The following types of organizations qualify for at least some of WSDOT's public transportation grants: cities, counties, nonprofit agencies, private operators, senior centers, special districts (such as schools and ports), state agencies, transit agencies, and tribes.
Grant-funded projects include: Services such as transit; paratransit; transportation for the elderly, people with disabilities, and rural communities; commute trip reduction; and transit-pass programs. Vehicles and equipment such as new buses, rideshare vehicles, and supporting equipment. Infrastructure such as transit centers, park and ride lots, transit-signal-priority systems, and transit lanes.

The Consolidated Grant program provides funds for: Public transportation improvements within and between rural communities. Transportation services between cities. Purchases of new buses and equipment.
Public transportation services to seniors and people with disabilities. The Consolidated Grant program includes five eligible project types: The grant application will open June 16, 2026. Green Transportation Capital The Green Transportation Capital grant program informational notice of funding opportunity (PDF 360KB) is now available.
The Green Transportation Capital grant program provides funding to transit authorities for cost-effective capital projects that reduce the carbon intensity of the Washington transportation system. Any transit agency in Washington state is an eligible applicant. The grant will open June 16, 2026.
State Buses and Bus Facilities The State Buses and Bus Facilities grant program informational notice of funding opportunity (PDF 354KB) is now available. The State Buses and Bus Facilities grant program provides funding to transit authorities for: Replacement, expansion, rehabilitation, and purchase of transit rolling stock. Construction, modification, or rehabilitation of transit facilities.
Adapting to technological change or innovation through the retrofitting of transit rolling stock and facilities. New: Improvements or modifications to buses and facilities that increase safety and security. Any transit agency in Washington State is an eligible applicant.
The grant application will open June 16, 2026. We’re accepting applications for the Regional Mobility Grant program. The application is open to applicants that submitted a pre-application.

030). The program funds a range of project types, including capital construction, vehicle and equipment purchases, operating projects, and transportation demand management, with an emphasis on delivering public benefits efficiently and effectively.
Cities, counties, ports, public transit agencies, regional transit authorities, regional transportation planning organizations, and metropolitan planning organizations in Washington state are eligible to apply. The application is open in the Grants Management System. Applications are due 3 p.
