Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (2023–2028) | odphp. health. gov CDC's Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH, 2023–2028) aims to improve health, prevent chronic diseases, and reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest risk, or burden, of chronic disease.
This program funds state and local health departments, tribes, universities, and community-based organizations. Awards are made on a five-year cycle. The current program runs from 2023 to 2028.
Recipients use these funds to build strong partnerships to guide and support the program's work. The Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health program's goal is to make healthy eating and active living more accessible and affordable to priority populations by putting into action proven public health strategies.
Two of the program's evidence-based public health strategies that apply to Food Is Medicine are fruit and vegetable incentives and produce prescription programs. They are often coupled with education programs on food, cooking, and nutrition necessary for a healthy diet. These programs also increase market demand for fruits and vegetables, which can increase sales for local farmers, food hubs, aggregators, distributors, and retailers.
