Racial Justice in Education Grants

Racial Justice in Education Grants is sponsored by National Education Association (NEA) Center for Racial and Social Justice. These grants allow the NEA to partner with state and local affiliates to advance racial and social justice in education. This includes strategies to develop leadership and activism of people of color, build connections across racial groups, and support organizational change.

Center for Racial and Social Justice – Racial Justice in Education Grant The NEA Human and Civil Rights (HCR) Department coordinates and administers the Center for Racial and Social Justice (CRSJ) Racial Justice in Education Grants to state and local affiliates to further drive the core strategies of NEA’s racial justice work: Awareness, Capacity-Building, and Action.

The CRSJ Racial Justice in Education Grants allow us to partner with state and local affiliates to test our theory of change that If we advance awareness of what is possible and who/what is getting in the way of that possibility, and if we build capacity to address those factors, then together we can accelerate action -taking to advance racial and social justice.

Published: September 18, 2020 Last Updated: May 17, 2024 State and Local Affiliates of NEA may apply for Racial Justice in Education Grants. All grantees will be expected to submit scheduled reports on the progress of the project during and at the close of the funding cycle (continued project funding is contingent upon satisfactory and successful reporting).

In order to be considered, each grant proposal should include: detailed planning and supporting documents, narrative and budgetary information (with budget data tied directly to the proposed activities). Typically, funded grant requests range from $5,000 to $75,000 over a 1-year period.

Racial Justice in Education Grant considerations are made of the following strategic priorities and outcomes: Deliberate strategies to develop and expand the leadership and activism of people of color, including Aspiring Educators, early career educators, students, families, parents, and other stakeholders of color.

Specific strategies and activities that build connections and solidarity across different racial groups-- internally and externally--to build multi-racial and cross issue unity and power. Implement racial and social justice values-based organizing and engagement campaigns to address critical issues within the school community.

Activities that leverage organizational change strategies inclusive of equity assessments and/or audit processes that contribute to building systems and structures that support internal change, and transformation. The deadline for CRSJ grant applications is December 1, 2025. Grant Awards will be made in February, 2026.

Within the capture form, please make sure to select the appropriate Center/Department to whom your affiliate is submitting a grant request.

Download a copy of the Center for Racial and Social Justice Racial Justice in Education Grant Application , familiarize yourself with it and gather all required information.

Once logged in, you will be able to: Start a new application from scratch Copy a previously submitted application to use as a starting point for a new application Continue an application you started previously If you start a new application from scratch, you will be required to select the Affiliate applying for funding.

This can be done in three ways: Search for and select your Affiliate from the master database (NOTE: searching by IRS EIN number will be more efficient. If you cannot locate your Affiliate in the master database, use the Add Organization link at the bottom of the Organization Search screen to add your Affiliate manually.

If you have applied for funding using the New Applicant \ Grantee Portal before, your Affiliate will display, and you can select without searching. Once in the application, provide all required information. The application will save automatically every time you add or change information, so you cannot lose your work.

Finally, once you feel your application is complete, click the Sign and Submit button. Missing information will be flagged, and you will have to provide it before you can submit your application.
