The grants support innovative approaches that rapidly reskill and reemploy dislocated workers and help employers address critical workforce shortages in industries supporting America’s reindustrialization and priorities outlined in America’s AI Action Plan. Reskill DWGs are designed to help workers affected by layoffs quickly transition into high-wage, in-demand occupations through employer-driven training and employment strategies.
The initiative emphasizes rapid engagement, leveraging workers’ existing skills, short-term intensive training, individualized reemployment planning, and placement into employment or paid work-based learning such as Registered Apprenticeships, within six months of enrollment whenever feasible. Grant recipients will also document and share effective practices that can be replicated across the public workforce system.
