The following types of projects are eligible for funding: • New recreational trail construction (non-motorized and motorized) • Trail maintenance/restoration • Trailside and trailhead facilities (for example, parking, restrooms, potable water, etc.) • Purchase/lease of recreational trail construction and maintenance equipment • Acquisition of easements and property for recreational trails or recreational trail corridors • Educational programs promoting trail safety and environmental protection Please see grant guidelines for additional details.

This grant program is federally funded and is administered by the ODNR in cooperation with the FHWA. https://www. fhwa.
dot. gov/environment/recreational_trails/ In the 2023 grant cycle $50,000 will be made available, specifically for Storybook Trails. Each applicant can request up to $10,000 with a minimum request of $5,000 per eligible project scope.
All applications undergo extensive review, often including an unscheduled site visit. After project site visits have been completed, professional staff members score all applications. Projects and scores are then reviewed by the grant advisory board and approved by ODNR administration.
