Redemption Innovation Grant Program is sponsored by Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery. The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers the Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grant Program pursuant to Senate Bill (SB) 101 (Chapter 12, Skinner, Budget Act of 2023) and Assembly Bill (AB) 107 (Chapter 22, Gabriel, Budget Act of 2024).
The purpose of the grant is to provide funding for mobile unit programs, reverse vending machines, or bag drop programs for dealer cooperatives. Eligible Applicants Private, nonprofit entities, in addition to being registered and in good standing with the California Secretary of State, must also be registered and in good standing with the California Department of Justice, and appear on their Registry of Charities and Fundraisers.
If a nonprofit entity is excluded from registering with the Department of Justice, proof must be provided with the application.
Eligible applicants include: Dealer Cooperatives A dealer cooperative is a stewardship organization that is exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and formed for the purpose of providing redemption opportunities pursuant to paragraph (2) of subdivision (a) of Section 14578 and consists of member dealers and has an approved dealer cooperative stewardship plan.
A dealer cooperative is voluntary for a dealer to join pursuant to Section 14578. Individual Application An Individual Application is one in which a single eligible entity will be responsible for grant implementation. The applicant in an Individual Application will be responsible for the performance of the grant and all related documentation.
In addition, the applicant will be the only entity receiving any real or personal property that is purchased with grant funds. Eligible Projects/Products All projects must be located within an unserved zone identified within the CalRecycle approved dealer cooperative stewardship plan. Eligible projects include: · Mobile Programs.
Consist of either: redemption in-person through staffed systems that are moved between different redemption locations pickup-service redemption at the consumer's addresses within unserved zones. · Bag Drop Programs. Consist of consumers depositing empty beverage containers in a sealable bag, box, or other container into a designated Bag Drop receptacle for later collection and redemption.
· Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs). Consist of deployment of automated machines that accept empty beverage containers and provide payment to customers at time of deposit.

FYs 2023–24 and 2024–25 Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grant Program - CalRecycle Home Page Notice of Funds Available: Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grant Program (FYs 2023–24 and 2024–25) The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers a program to provide opportunities to provide funding for mobile unit programs, reverse vending machines, or bag drop programs for dealer cooperatives.
Dealer cooperatives are nonprofit stewardship organizations formed for the purpose of providing redemption opportunities pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 14578 (a)(2) and consist of dealer members and have an approved dealer cooperative stewardship plan. The maximum requested amount must not exceed $10,000,000 per grant award. If the applicant does not have an EPPP Policy at the time of application, an EPPP Policy must be adopted by this date. Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Clean Up and Abatement Grant Program FR90 is sponsored by Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery. The Farm & Ranch Solid Waste Clean Up & Abatement Grant program provides funding for cleaning up and preventing illegal dumping on agricultural properties (CCR, Section 17991(d)). Each fiscal year has four application cycles, with the fourth serving as the pilot cycle. Cycle 90 (FR90) is the fourth and the pilot cycle. CalRecycle administers the program per Section 48100 of the Public Resources Code. The project sites eligible for the grant must be located on 'farm and ranch' property, encompassing both private and public land, where the owner is not held responsible for the illegal disposal. The definition of 'farm and ranch' property can be found in the Eligible Geographies section below. Grantees are given approximately two years to complete the project(s). The sites should be fully remediated (cleaned up) using grant funds, or a combination of grant funds and in-kind contributions in terms of funds or services. The funding covers various costs, including Administrative, Recycling/Disposal (tires), Equipment, Material, and Personnel expenses. If necessary, measures for abatement and prevention, such as site security and public education/outreach efforts, should also be addressed. The program encourages innovative approaches. California cities, counties, special districts, Qualifying California Native American tribes and joint powers authorities are eligible to apply. Funding: $1,500,000 available for fiscal year (FY) 2026–27 - $100,000 for individual grant awards and $250,000 for regional grant awards.
