The Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) Program funds grant recipients to provide direct services to promote newcomers’ health and well-being routinely and during times of crisis (for example, during a pandemic). 1. Provide opportunities to increase health literacy 2.
Coordinate physical and mental health care 3. Organize wellness groups **RHP-funded Services and Activities May Include:** * Health education classes and targeted health outreach to individuals * Medical and mental health navigation and support * Adjustment groups, skill-building networks, or peer support meetings RHP services may be provided to individuals eligible for ORR-funded services for up to five years.
However, grant recipients should prioritize those who have the most persistent, pressing, or underserved health needs. For more information on the RHP Program, view **Policy Letter 20-05**(PDF). The RHP Program is funded through a Refugee Support Services (RSS) “set-aside” formula grant.

**Refugee Mental Health Initiative** The Refugee Mental Health Initiative (ReMHI), within the RHP Program, seeks to build capacity within communities to address the mental health needs of refugee populations. New arrivals may face varying emotional distress from pre-migration and post-resettlement stressors, impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and/or racial/social injustice/inequity.
ReMHI activities focus on increasing mental health literacy, coordinating mental health care, and organizing wellness groups. For more information on ReMHI, view **Policy Letter 22-06**(PDF).
