Galería 4. 0: A Retrospective Community/Nonprofit Event Rentals The ReGen Artist Fund is a small grants program that seeks to provide artists with grant writing and artistic program planning skills to develop competitive artistic proposals.

Through this program, artists participate in mandatory workshops that encourage them to explore strategies to make artistic projects compelling, design projects that address community priorities, learn to target and reach an audience, build and track a budget, assemble strong work samples and create a biographical summary of their practice.

By the conclusion of the workshops, all participants will have the skills to complete and submit a project proposal and application for funding consideration from Galería de la Raza. In 1992, artist and Galería board member, Dr. Amalia Mesa-Bains, was awarded the prestigious and coveted McArthur Fellowship.

Upon receiving her McArthur “Genius” award her generous and visionary spirit quickly went to work; after serving as a board member for 20 years, with her “no strings attached genius award” she founded the ReGeneration Project.

This initiative sought to provide emerging artists with exhibition and professional development opportunities and to directly involve a new generation of young Latino artists in the planning and management of Galería activities which infused a new cultural vibrancy and political discourse that was relevant and uplifted the Latino experience.

In its current iteration, now known as the ReGen Artist Fund, the Fund’s spirit is to continue to build artistic capacity and award San Francisco artists in all artistic genres. Artist projects and their activities will be produced and presented by Galería de la Raza and provide a public benefit to the communities of the City and County of San Francisco . Artists must use the requested funds to cover an entire project.

This grant is not intended to support organizations, artistic companies, or collectives. Projects may include collaborations, but the individual who applies for the grant and is approved for funding will receive the grant award. The application should be written from the perspective of the specific artist applying and highlight their personal experience, work, and role in the project.

ReGen Community Beautification This grant cycle, Galería is funding art projects to activate the Mission Street corridor – from 14th Street to 22nd Street. Our vision for this grant cycle is to support artistic projects that center and activate a public space as a community resource and support and uplift the economic sector of the Mission Street corridor.

Our goal is to activate “the commons” into a resource for community healing, civic engagement, and a reflection of values through thoughtful public art and interventions that foster a sense of belonging.

The ReGen Community Beautification Fund looks to artists to steward temporary activities and interventions of the commons that reflect and celebrate the diversity of our neighborhood and offers residents a pop of whimsy and joy in their daily life. Registration for Workshop #1 is open.
