Regents Grants | Arizona Board of Regents Delivering solutions for Arizona Regents' Grants bring together Arizona public universities' researchers, state government agencies and community organizations to tackle pressing challenges facing our state. These grants are funded by Arizonans for Arizonans. Arizona law established the Technology and Research Initiative Fund (TRIF) as part of Proposition 301 tax revenue.
The Arizona Board of Regents has earmarked a portion of those funds to support academic research in areas of greatest need and interest to Arizonans. Examples of current grant awards include: Researching new methods to lower levels of cancer-causing “forever chemicals” (PFAS) among firefighters. Removing PFAS from our water to increase drinking water quality in Arizona’s water supply.
Improving our understanding of Valley Fever location, transmission and biology. Mitigating dust to reduce Valley fever cases and improve air quality. Applying AI to improve Arizona emergency response.
Abandoned mines risk assessment and inventory tool. Finding smarter ways to water trees to provide cost-effective watering solutions for Arizona cities. Improving groundwater recharge.
Understanding and addressing police, firefighter and detention officer recruitment and retention. Reusing copper tailings to assess the metal content from this waste rock in search of critical elements while helping to reduce air and groundwater contamination.
