Regional and Foundation Grants is sponsored by Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC). Provides funding for preservation and conservation projects managed by various agencies and foundations.

Regional and Foundation Grants — NEDCC Regional and Foundation Grants Grant programs for preservation and conservation are managed by various agencies, including state libraries, archives, Departments of Education, and Departments of Cultural Resources. In addition, regional organizations, such as local heritage networks, and national foundations may also offer funding for these initiatives.

American Alliance of Museums Museum Assessment Program (MAP) > Supports collections assessments . AAM’s Accreditation program is not federally funded and therefore is not impacted by recent cuts to federal agencies. The Museum Assessment Program (MAP) operates solely on federal funding through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

They have not received funding for FY 2025, which means that they are unable to offer an IMLS-funded MAP cohort at this time. They will update their page with future MAP opportunities. American Institute for Conservation Collections Assessment for Conservation > The Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program provides small and mid-sized museums with partial funding toward a general conservation assessment .

The assessment is a study of all of the institution's collections, buildings, and building systems, as well as its policies and procedures relating to collections care. Participants who complete the program receive an assessment report with prioritized recommendations to improve collections care. CAP is often a first step for small institutions that wish to improve the condition of their collections.

NEDCC assessors include Bexx Caswell-Olson , director of book conservation, and Monique Fischer , senior photograph conservation. Funding for each program year is subject to availability of funds in the federal budget. No funds have been allocated for the 2025 program year, and there are no updates on when another CAP cycle might be possible.

Emergency Collections Assessment for Conservation > The Emergency CAP is more flexible in that it does not adhere to the annual schedule of the regular CAP program. The goal is to help museums affected by a recent disaster receive post-disaster collections care recommendations from conservation and building professionals on an expedited basis.

> Provides grants to nonprofit museums to conserve historically or culturally significant works of art that are in danger of degeneration, including works that have been designated as national treasures.

Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) DIGITIZING HIDDEN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS AND ARCHIVES: Amplifying Unheard Voices is a national grant competition administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for audio preservation - digitizing rare and unique content stewarded by collecting organizations in the US and Canada.

Application deadline: 05/04/2026 RECORDINGS AT RISK - A National Regranting Program is a national regranting program administered by CLIR to support the audio preservation of rare and unique audio and audiovisual content of high scholarly value through digital reformatting.

Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network (DPOE-N) The Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network (DPOE-N) provides Professional Development Funding for both individuals and institutions seeking professional development in the area of digital preservation .

> Microgrants: General Professional Development : For individuals currently employed in the United States or U.S. territories who are partly or wholly responsible for the stewardship of a collection. > Microgrants: Emerging Professionals : Current students or recent graduates not yet employed by an institution.

Individuals may be students and recent graduates of programs in library and information science, archival studies, museum studies, media art conservation, or related fields, on a certificate or Masters level track who are interested in pursuing digital preservation practice in a professional context. These microgrants can be (and have been) used to pay for NEDCC training and online courses like Digital Directions .

Applications are accepted on a rolling through December 2028 Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation (South Carolina) Broadening Narratives - Grants for the Chicago and Lowcountry South Carolina Regions > "The Foundation believes in the importance of general operating funding, but things in the collections world can operate a bit differently.

To address the wide scope of projects requesting support, we offer project-based and time-limited support for our Broadening Narratives grants. Collections projects often take several years from inception to completion.

Because Broadening Narratives is encouraging a different kind of collections work—balancing subject-matter expertise with lived experience expertise, partnerships between smaller community-based organizations and large institutions, equity in resource sharing, exploration of under-represented narratives–we work with groups to help them develop their applications, usually through a series of conversations.

This cooperative development in the resulting work is better supported by project-based funding." Application deadline: 03/27/2026 Gladys krieble delmas foundation (new york) Research Libraries Program > Supports collection-level preservation , conservation work , and small-scale digitization . There are no deadlines for organizational applications.

The Foundation reviews proposals throughout the year. The Herbert and Louise Whitney Fund for Community Preservation > Awards grants to one small to medium-sized history organization in each New England state to support projects that save and share their communities’ diverse history and culture as part of telling the whole story of New England. Island Foundation (Massachusetts) > Supports preservation assessments .

Application deadlines: 03/01, 06/01, 09/01, 12/01 ( yearly ) Summerlee Foundation (Texas) > Supports projects in the disciplines of archaeology, archives, libraries, media, museums, middle and secondary schools, higher education, preservation , publications, and scholarly research. The participation of well-qualified individuals either as active participants or consultants helps to make a proposal stronger.

Application: The online application portal will open February 2, 2026. Southern Jewish Historical Society The Scott and Donna Langston Archival Grant > Supports projects aimed at preserving archival materials related to Southern Jewish History.
