Small Grants for the River - Friends of the Verde River River Friendly Living Grants The face of the river…was not a book to be read once and thrown aside, for it had a new story to tell every day. The River Friendly Living grant program is made possible by businesses that support a healthy Verde River. The grants offer funding to support conservation projects.
Homeowners can apply for up to $1,000, and businesses/organizations can apply for up to $5,000 annually. Homeowners, businesses, non-profits, and municipalities can apply for grants. All funded projects are to be completed within a 12-month period.
Eligible River Friendly Living projects support or create a sustainable water supply. Examples include improved infrastructure, increased indoor efficiency, irrigation efficiency, wastewater reuse, rain harvesting, and lawn removal.
Upcoming Grant Deadlines: Request For Proposals 2026 Grants – Yavapai County and Beyond Friends of the Verde River offers River Friendly Living Grants to support water-saving projects by residents, businesses, nonprofits, and local agencies in the Verde River Watershed (excluding Camp Verde, AZ).
Homeowners may receive up to $5,000 (or $1,000 outside Yavapai County), and businesses or organizations may be eligible for up to $10,000 (or $5,000 outside Yavapai County). Eligible projects include indoor and irrigation efficiency upgrades, lawn removal, rainwater harvesting, and more. Applicants must be pursuing River Friendly Living certification and submit proposals by March 31, 2026.
For eligibility, applicants must be participating in the River Friendly Living program.

Homeowners may request up to $1,000, and eligible businesses or organizations may request up to $5,000 for projects such as lawn removal, rainwater harvesting, irrigation upgrades, or indoor efficiency improvements. Applicants must be located in Camp Verde, Arizona, and must be participating in or pursuing River Friendly Living Certification. Proposals are due by March 31, 2026, and funding will be awarded in May.

2021 – Verde River Nature Preserve The Verde Village Property Owners Association (VVPOA) was awarded $5,000 for improvements to the Verde River Nature Preserve. 2021 – Mountain View Prep Bike Skills Course This project is designed to maximize all the potential that this site has to offer. 2020 – Blowout Wash Trail Construction From the top of Mingus Mountain to Sedona , Az.
The Blowout Wash Trail System is a collaborative project to create commuter and recreational trails. 2020 – Bathroom Construction at River Access Point This project builds on a long legacy of collaborative work at this access point. 2019 – Verde River Institute The Verde River Institute (VRI) completed a virtual model of more than 20 sites on the Verde River, Oak Creek, and Fossil Creek.
The Town of Clarkdale will install a floating boat dock at the Tuzigoot River Access Point (RAP) in the summer of 2019. 2019 – Springs Stewardship Institute The Springs Stewardship Institute (SSI) collected information on 820 springs, to understand these important sources of river flow.
2018 – Verde River Institute – Water Quality By Drone The Verde River Institute has conducted more than 1100 water quality samples using a drone-deployed sampler on the Middle Verde reach of the Verde River in the last 12 months. 2018 – Springs Stewardship Institute – Springs Online Database The Verde River Basin (VRB) is a large watershed in central-northern Arizona.
2018 – Oak Creek Watershed Council – Water Quality Field Days Over the years, Oak Creek Watershed Council has hosted numerous opportunities for Verde Valley youth to engage in environmental stewardship by learning about human impacts on ecological health of their surrounding waterways.
2017 – Vets for the Verde, Vetraplex Adopt-a-Vet Each season, October through February, VWRC partners team up with us to train and employ otherwise unemployed Veterans to manage invasive species within the Verde River and Oak Creek watersheds. 2017 – Verde Watershed Ambassador Program, Oak Creek Watershed Council The Verde Watershed Ambassador Program demonstrates a broad approach of Best Management Practices for watershed visitors.
2017 – Dry Creek Restoration, Arizona Wilderness Coalition The Dry Creek Restoration project will benefit the Verde watershed by restoring a portion of the Dry Creek drainage, a tributary of Oak Creek. 2016 – Verde Rules, A Signage Program, Town of Camp Verde Residents whose properties adjoin the river suffer a litany of problems from trespass, to dumping, to off-road vehicle traffic.
2016 – Safety Boater Training, Verde River Valley Nature Organization $3,000 was awarded in May 2016 to fund workshops in safe river recreation through April 2017. 2016 – Phase II of the Jail Trail, AZ State Parks The Jail Trail is a greenway loop trail linking Old Town Cottonwood to the Verde River and its unique Fremont Cottonwood/Goodding Willow gallery forest.
2015 – Water Sampling Week, Oak Creek Watershed Council Water Sampling Week, hosted by the Oak Creek Watershed Council and the University of Arizona Water Quality Extension will educate hundreds of local students about the importance of water quality in Oak Creek and in any watershed they visit or live within.
2015 – Verde River Ambassadors, Town of Clarkdale 5,000 was awarded in October 2015 to support the Verde River @ Clarkdale’s Ambassador Program.
2014 – Water Stewardship Program, Verde Natural Resource Conservation District One for the Verde awarded the Education Center of the Verde NRCD $2,700 to fund the Water Stewardship Program (grades 5th-8th), which educates youth about the importance of wise management of natural resources with an emphasis on water conservation.
2014 – Kiosk for the Jail Trail, City of Cottonwood In May 2014, $500 was awarded towards construction of this information kiosk in Old Town Cottonwood. Working Collaboratively for a Healthy, Flowing Verde River system.
