First-time grant seekers should consider getting involved with RCHF’s existing programming, such as its Eastside HEAL Zone or its Birthworkers Collaborative, PROFILE: Established in 1997, the Riverside Community Health Foundation (RCHF) is a community foundation based in Riverside, California.

RCHF is a nonprofit public charity that awards grants and operates local clinics and community health programs. The foundation’s mission is to “improve the health and well-being of our community.

” Since its inception, the foundation has made about $37 million in grants “to nonprofit organizations and government agencies that directly benefit the health and well-being of residents of the cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, Corona, Norco, and Perris. ” While all grantmaking focuses on public health and access, the specific focus of RCHF’s grantmaking changes from year to year.

Grants for Public Health, Diseases, Mental Health and Racial Equity Recent RCHF grantmaking has focused on health and racial equity.

The foundation has specifically targeted its giving toward “small projects that support healthcare system improvements through a health/racial equity lens” and that pursue one of three main goals: Increasing access to “culturally appropriate” resources for mental health care and disease prevention; Creating, expanding or improving “systems-level approaches” to mental health care and disease prevention; and supporting and improving knowledge and services that enhance “protective factors” related to physical and mental health.

Grants are awarded in amounts ranging from $10,000 to $40,000. The foundation accepts grant applications with a due date that falls in late September, for projects that will take place from December through June of the following year.

Past RCHF grantees include the Riverside University Health System Foundation, Walden Family Services, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest and the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation. Of late, youth outreach has been a larger piece of the puzzle, funding initiatives like the Young Men’s Conference and the BestSelfie Conference to empower local teens and foster better communication with parents.

As of 2025, the most readily available grant opportunity comes via the Pathways to Health program. This program awards nonprofits aiming to “reduce health disparities and implement sustainable, equity-focused solutions within the following focus areas: access to healthcare, mental health and behavioral wellness and chronic disease and preventative care. ” Grants are awarded in amounts up to $40,000.

See guidelines for more information. While RCHF’s application guidelines indicate a grant range of $10,000 to $40,000, past grants have been awarded in amounts of up to $55,000. In a recent year, this funder gave $597,542 in total grants.

Grantmaking serves health, mental health and human services organizations in the communities of Riverside, Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, Corona, Norco, and Perris in California. Many grantees receive ongoing support. The foundation provides detailed application guidelines, but these change annually, as does the specific focus of RCHF’s grant program.

All applications must be submitted through the foundation’s online application portal and are generally due in late September, with decisions announced in late November.
