New dates for the next grant cycle will be posted in August. Applications are considered from any permanent faculty member (tenure-track, tenured, or lecturer) of Brown University whose assigned responsibilities include promoting ideas through the arts.
Brown adjunct professors, post-doctoral fellows and MFA or PhD students with teaching responsibilities are also eligible to apply, however, you must be teaching at Brown for the semester in which you apply and the semester in which your event is taking place. Faculty may only apply for one project per semester. Applicants are required to discuss proposed projects and budgets with their department managers and chairs prior to applying.
Failure to discuss the request may result in the award being rescinded. Projects must take place within the current Academic Year. Retroactive awards for projects completed prior to the application deadline will not be granted.
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a Grants Committee. Grants are meant to address needs that arise outside of the BAI's regular grant cycles. Applicants may not apply for a Rolling Grant and another grant opportunity for the same project.
Awards will be made based on the following criteria: Intention for the project’s community reach and/or deepening cross-disciplinary practice Integration with BAI philosophy and priorities A feasible time frame for completion within the semester Providing a descriptive and reasonable budget Proposals are submitted electronically via this form .
Any applicant proposing a project which could have implications for their home department must discuss plans with the department manager before submitting an application. If this is an aspect of your proposal, please allow adequate time for this initial step. The BAI Rolling Grant Application window opens November 17, 2025, and closes April 10, 2026, 11:59 PM EDT or until all funds are exhausted.
Applications will be reviewed on a monthly rolling basis and applicants will be notified of their application status by the end of each month. Funding for accepted proposals will be awarded via Journal Entry for faculty projects.
Within 30 days of the conclusion of the award period, grant recipients must complete the required final report form , which asks grant recipients to describe the work accomplished and reflect on both successful outcomes and challenges. In addition, final reports must include photo, video or other documentation for BAI promotional purposes and inclusion in the BAI archive. Provided images must conform to Brown’s Image Use Policy .

Svane Family Foundation Culture Forward Grants is a $5 million grant initiative from the Svane Family Foundation that supports arts and culture projects attracting families, students, and young professionals to Downtown San Francisco. The program is open to individual artists, artist collectives, and arts and culture organizations. Small & Simple Grants (Bloomington, IN) is a grant from the City of Bloomington HAND Department that funds neighborhood community building activities with a demonstrated local benefit. Eligible uses include neighborhood cleanups, community parties, invasive plant removal, street sign toppers, welcome packages, newsletters, dog waste stations, and native landscaping. Each neighborhood may receive up to $500 annually, with no required monetary match. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from January 1 through September 1, 2026, or until all funds are awarded. Only neighborhood groups and associations within Bloomington, Indiana are eligible to apply.
