Research Grants | Rothman Opioid The mission of the Rothman Opioid Foundation is to help combat the opioid crisis through education, research, and advocacy.

To achieve this mission, the Rothman Opioid Foundation is dedicated to support research around the opioid crisis; including and not limited to: Opioid-sparing or mitigating pain management strategies Social, psychological, and behavioral determinants of substance abuse Evaluations of alternative pain solutions, including medical cannabis and non-pharmacologic modalities.

The Research Grants function similarly to the NIH Small Research Grant Program (R03). The R03 grant mechanism supports small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. Typical study scope can include, but is not limited to: Self-contained research projects Secondary analysis of existing data All grants are for up to $10,000 per year.

An academic or research professional with an academic appointment, specializing in the areas of opioid abuse, pain management, substance abuse, psychology, and public health. Alternatively, graduate students (ie, MPH, MBA, MS, or MA) or professional students and/or resident physicians (ie, MD or DO) are also eligible to apply, but with a faculty mentor meeting the academic credentials above.

Submit a research proposal with the following required elements: Principle Investigator (and Faculty Mentor, if applicable) Project Narrative (include background, hypothesis, methodology, and goals with study results) Proof of IRB (either IRB approval or proof of IRB application) Budget (with justifications) CV of Principle Investigator Support Letter from Faculty Mentor if Principle Investigator is a student.

Biosketches for additional Investigator(s), if applicable (one page per additional investigator) Submitted completed application packet electronically to: Lilly. Caso@rothmanopioid. org Applications are received and reviewed on a rolling basis.

Grants are for a one-year period, and can be renewed with a re-application. Grant funds are to be used only for “direct costs”, and not “indirect costs”. Grant funds are not to be used for travel or presentation.

Grant funds can be used to cover publication fees. Grant awardees will receive $5000 upon acceptance. The remaining $5000 will be submitted upon study completion and proof of journal submission for potential publication.
