7 million K-12 students attend metro community schools, it may surprise you to know that – as of 2019 – Georgia trailed only North Carolina and Texas in rural school enrollment. In fact, nearly half-a-million Georgia students are educated in rural systems. Which means their abilities to succeed upon leaving school will play a huge role in the health of our state.
Excellent public educational opportunities are important across our entire state, which is why this fund provides traditional public schools, charter schools and school districts located in counties with 35,000 or fewer residents with up to $10,000 to use however they wish to drive student success. To date, we’ve awarded 63 grants to rural schools and districts totaling over $354,003.
In 2022, we awarded seven Rural Education Fund grants to Georgia schools and districts totaling $70,000. The grants focused on art and music education, STEAM programs, virtual reality experiences, literacy, and community service projects for high school students.
