Rural Suicide Prevention Request For Application - NYS Office of Mental Health's Suicide Prevention Center Rural Suicide Prevention Request For Application Rural Suicide Prevention Request For Application The New York State Office of Mental Health’s Suicide Prevention Center of New York (SPCNY) is currently accepting applications for a funding opportunity for New York State counties with a population of < 200,000 as specified in the New York State Rural Act definition of rural areas .
This initiative aims to build sustainable suicide prevention capacity in rural New York State counties by the end of a 30-month initiative.
Eligible Counties: Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Montgomery, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Putnam, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, St.
Lawrence, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates The initiative will be divided into two phases: a Planning Phase from July through December 2026 and an Implementation Phase from January 2027 through December 2028.
During the 6-month planning phase, recipient counties will perform a needs assessment, engage community partners, attend the annual OMH SPCNY 2026 suicide prevention conference focused on rural suicide prevention where attendees will receive technical assistance from subject matter experts, and finalize their action plan by year’s end.
During the ensuing 24-month implementation phase, county teams will focus on implementation of their selected initiatives. The goal is for counties to build sustainable suicide prevention capacity by project’s end. Funding and timeline: Up to five (5) recipient counties are eligible to receive up to $132,000 over the course of the 30-month initiative.
Payments will be made via State Aid Letter. Counties serve as a fiduciary and may direct funds to partners as needed to meet project goals and deliverables.
