Sacred Landmarks grant guidelines, application materials available from Cameron Foundation - The Cameron Foundation Sacred Landmarks grant guidelines, application materials available from Cameron Foundation Petersburg, VA (December 3, 2013) – As part of the updates being made to its grants program, The Cameron Foundation announces the availability of grant guidelines and application materials for its new Sacred Landmarks Grants.

These grant opportunities are intended to help eligible congregations maintain their physical facilities and preserve important landmark buildings for future generations in the Tri-Cities area. “To my knowledge, The Cameron Foundation’s support for historic religious buildings is one of very few such efforts nationally,” President J. Todd Graham explained.

“We recognize that these historic buildings are more than places of worship – they also play an essential role in providing space for community-serving programs and are equally significant as contributors to the historic fabric of the region.

After researching sacred landmark grant programs from across the country and documenting the large number of important sacred structures in the Foundation’s service area, we are pleased to offer such a rare resource to this community,” he added. As a component of the Historic Preservation funding area, Sacred Landmarks Grants are available through the Foundation’s General Grants Program.

Grants of up to $25,000 will be available to eligible religious organizations for exterior preservation of their historic religious buildings. Priority will be given to projects demonstrating urgent repair needs, and to historic religious buildings listed locally, on the Virginia Landmarks Register, or on the National Register of Historic Places, either individually or as a contributing resource in a historic district.

Sacred Landmarks Grants are one component of the Foundation’s highly competitive regular grant program and requests will be considered alongside many other requests for funding across the Foundation’s six areas of interest. Please click here to see more details about Sacred Landmarks Grants.

The Cameron Foundation is a private foundation that supports the work of nonprofits and partner agencies to improve the quality of life of residents in the cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell; the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George, and Sussex; and the portion of Chesterfield County lying south of Route 10.

Founded in 2003, The Cameron Foundation was formed from the proceeds of the sale of Southside Regional Medical Center by the Hospital Authority of the City of Petersburg. Since it began grantmaking in 2004, the Foundation has awarded approximately $60 million to organizations serving the residents of the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties.
