Call For Applications: Sanofi Foundation S 2025 Climate Action & - MSME Africa African community-based organizations and NGOs working in climate and public health now have a major funding opportunity as Foundation S – the Sanofi Global Health Program launches the 2025 Climate Action & Health Resilience Grants .

The program supports locally led initiatives reducing health risks linked to extreme heat, air pollution, and climate-driven challenges , especially impacting women, youth, and vulnerable communities . With grants of €50,000–€100,000 per year , this opportunity is designed to scale grassroots solutions that strengthen health systems and build climate resilience across Africa and Asia.

Projects must address one or both priority pillars: Community health system strengthening to anticipate & respond to heat and air pollution Leveraging science, data, technology, early-warning systems, & AI for climate-health adaptation Initiatives must promote equity, inclusion, and local leadership , especially for women and youth .

FG Empowers 100 Women, Youths with Livestock Assets to Grow Businesses, Boost Food Production The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has empowered 100 women and youths with livestock and production inputs to help them start or expand businesses, improve household incomes and contribute to food production.

The beneficiaries, comprising 52 women and 48 youths, received 100 bullocks, heifers and other livestock production inputs at an empowerment programme held in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The initiative, which brought together beneficiaries from the North-West, North-East and North-Central geopolitical zones, was implemented by the ministry in collaboration with Meteorite Logistics Ltd. Speaking at the event, Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, represented by the Director of Livestock Extension and Business Development, said the programme reflects the Federal Government’s efforts to transform the livestock sector while creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods.

He said providing women and young people with quality breeding stock and productive livestock assets would help them participate more actively in the livestock value chain. Advertisement According to the minister, the intervention is expected to improve livestock productivity, increase household incomes, promote entrepreneurship and create sustainable economic opportunities, particularly in rural communities.

He urged beneficiaries to properly manage the animals, adopt improved animal husbandry practices and expand their herds to maximise the long-term benefits of the support.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dr Maryam Miko, Jigawa State Coordinator of the Association of Women in Agriculture and Rural Farmers of Nigeria (AWARFAN), said the support would help her establish a livestock business, increase her family’s income and contribute to food production.

Umar Usman, who received the items on behalf of his wife, Hannatu Musa, also commended the government for supporting women and vulnerable households, saying the intervention would strengthen their household income and food security.

Jigawa State representative of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ahmed Abubakar, said the intervention would help livestock farmers improve production and strengthen the state’s livestock economy. Advertisement In his closing remarks, Olorunfemi of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development urged beneficiaries to treat the livestock as productive assets and use them to build sustainable businesses.

He encouraged them to nurture the animals, expand their herds and eventually create employment for others. Officials of the ministry and Meteorite Logistics Ltd. also provided guidance on animal feeding, breeding, healthcare and proper husbandry to help beneficiaries sustain the intervention.

The ministry said it would continue implementing programmes aimed at modernising Nigeria’s livestock sector, expanding economic opportunities, creating jobs and improving food security.

American Corner Trains 92 Young Creatives in Filmmaking, Unlocks New Career Opportunities The American Corner, Ibadan, has trained 92 aspiring filmmakers, storytellers, students and creative enthusiasts in practical filmmaking skills, equipping them with tools to pursue opportunities in Nigeria’s growing creative industry.

The three-day workshop, themed “From Local Stories to Global Screens: American Innovation and the Future of Nigerian Filmmaking,” brought together young creatives from Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria for hands-on training across different stages of filmmaking.

Speaking at the opening, Director of American Corner Ibadan, Karamat Ajala, said the organisation’s focus was to equip young Nigerians with practical skills, innovation and access to opportunities that can strengthen their participation in the creative economy.

Nollywood actor Hafiz Oyetoro also led a masterclass where he encouraged emerging filmmakers to tell authentic Nigerian stories while developing content capable of reaching international audiences. He said professionally produced local stories could attract global audiences and create opportunities for Nigerian filmmakers.

Advertisement The workshop featured practical sessions led by actor and filmmaker Kemi Owadara and Founder and Creative Lead of Calidad Studios and Calidad Film School, Njoku Samuel. Participants were trained in screenplay development, pre-production planning, directing, cinematography, production, editing and post-production.

They also worked in teams to develop scripts, produce and edit short films, giving them an opportunity to apply the skills acquired during the training. The completed films were screened at the end of the workshop, followed by professional critiques, audience feedback and interactive discussions to help participants improve their storytelling and technical abilities.

Some of the participants also received opportunities for further professional development. Outstanding teams were awarded filmmaking scholarships sponsored by Calidad Film School, while other participants received tuition discounts for future professional training. Plateau Launches Food Security Plan to Boost Farming, Empower Vulnerable Groups The Plateau State Government, in partnership with the Supply Chain Research and Innovation Hub (SCRIH), has launched a strategic food security plan aimed at strengthening agriculture, improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for vulnerable groups across the state.

The plan was developed under the SPRING Programme with contributions from agriculture officials from Mangu, Pankshin and Shendam local government areas, community leaders, researchers and other stakeholders.

Regional Programme Manager of SPRING, Mujidang Sitang, represented by Regional Grant Officer, Tony Yusuf, said the programme had also developed an early-warning and early-response framework for Plateau State and trained security personnel, including members of the state security outfit, Operation Rainbow.

Yusuf urged the state government to move beyond endorsing the plan and begin full implementation, saying it could help address some of the challenges affecting food production and security in the state.

Executive Director of SCRIH, Adebayo Adeleke, represented by Yusuf Akorede, said the plan would help transform Plateau’s agricultural system by ensuring women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups are actively involved in strengthening food security.

Adeleke stressed that the success of the initiative would ultimately depend on the results achieved through implementation rather than the launch itself.

Responding on behalf of the state government, Director of Agricultural Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Lang Zakka, said the partnership was designed to improve livelihoods, strengthen communities and promote peace and security, which he described as essential to food security.

Zakka said the project had helped bring communities together and improve security in areas where it was implemented, citing positive feedback from residents. He pledged that the state government would take over the remaining tasks from the partners and ensure the food security plan becomes a working document that guides action rather than remaining on paper.
