NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative » Small Business Research Initiative for Healthcare (SBRI) The Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Healthcare programme supports outstanding innovations that meet unmet needs across the NHS to deliver improved outcomes of care for patients. SBRI is funded by the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) , and delivered in partnership with the Health Innovation Network.
The programme provides funding and support differing phases of development: Phase 1 funding is for early-stage projects Funding primarily supports research and development to prove the scientific, technical and commercial feasibility of the proposed project. Phase 2 funding is for more mature products to support real world implementation studies for spread and adoption.
At the end of Phase 2 it is intended that what has been developed will be manufactured and marketed as a way of fulfilling requirements. Phase 3 funding focuses on the implementation of mature innovations to facilitate adoption by the relevant health or social care providers. Phase 1 projects can apply for phase 2 funding; however, selection is not guaranteed.
Application for phase 3 is open to all and is not dependent on participation in phases 1 and 2. Since 2013, SBRI Healthcare has provided over £150 million in funding for more than 300 innovations that improve patient outcomes. Last year the SBRI Healthcare Programme awarded £31.
