SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship | SCAI The SCAI Women in Innovations (WIN) fellowship opportunity is offered to interventional cardiology (IC) fellows or practicing interventional cardiologists interested in pursuing an additional year of advanced training beyond traditional IC fellowships, focusing on complex and high-risk interventional procedures (CHIP) and percutaneous acute mechanical circulatory support training in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

The 2026-27 SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship has been awarded. SCAI members will be notified by email and via the website when nominations reopen later this year for the 2027-28 Fellowship.

Past Fellowship Recipients SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient Samantha Espinosa, MD, MPH SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Award Recipient 30 in Their 30s Award Recipient With ever-advancing technology and techniques in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), there is a critical need for interventional cardiology specialists dedicated to offering minimally invasive percutaneous solutions to patients with complex coronary anatomy, severe comorbidities, and poor hemodynamics.

In response, the SCAI Women in Innovations (SCAI-WIN) offers an annual complex and high-risk coronary intervention (CHIP) fellowship grant.

The SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship is open to interventional cardiology fellows or practicing interventional cardiologists interested in pursuing an additional year of advanced training (beyond traditional interventional cardiology fellowships) focusing on CHIP and percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (MCS) training in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Be in or have completed an interventional cardiology fellowship within the past five years Board eligible or board certified for interventional cardiology Have employment authorization to work in the US at the start of their fellowship The successful recipient may apply this fellowship fund to a CHIP interventional training program with a cardiac catheterization laboratory treating over 250 complex coronary cases per year with access to the following advanced procedures and technology: Chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures Calcific disease with access to atherectomy, including rotational atherectomy Complex imaging and physiology (IVUS, OCT, FFR, resting indices) Percutaneous MCS in the cardiac catheterization laboratory Funding for the 2026-27 fellowship applied to a 12-month fellowship starting in July 2026, provided to the training institution for $85,000.

In addition to the funding, the recipient also received An invitation, along with financial support, to attend SCAI's Scientific Sessions Meeting in May 2026* (to walk the stage and accept the award of the Fellowship from the SCAI President) An invitation to participate in the SCAI Fellows Meeting in December 2026 and the Scientific Sessions Meeting in May 2027. The 2026-27 SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship has been awarded.

A concise statement of interest Two or more letters of reference, including one from a cath lab director, CHIP fellowship director, or division or service line chief at the prospective training institution, which should: Include the CTO PCI volume of the program Outline which types of CTO PCI techniques the fellow will be able to learn If known, state the CTO PCI volume of CHIP Fellows who have graduated from the program Proof of prior training in the form of a diploma or license is also required The SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship is supported by a grant from Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Shockwave.
