**WASHINGTON, D. C. –** The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced the first projects under its SCALEUP Ready program–the next iteration of ARPA-E’s SCALEUP Program–and committed up to $40 million to support two projects.
SCALEUP Ready – a rolling program - is designed to accelerate commercial scale-up of high-impact energy technologies. The program advances the Administration’s goals to strengthen domestic energy supply chains and American energy dominance, in line with the President’s Executive Order on _Unleashing American Energy_.
“These first SCALEUP Ready projects show how we turn breakthrough innovation into real world capability,” said **ARPA-E Director Conner Prochaska**. “SCALEUP Ready is about taking the most promising technologies and getting them built, deployed, and into the market where they can strengthen American energy and industry.
” SCALEUP Ready’s first selectees are: * **Lithios (Medford, MA)** will advance an electrochemical Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE) process to produce lithium from low grade U.S. brines, reducing the nation’s reliance on imports and strengthening domestic critical mineral supply.
* **Deep Isolation (Berkeley, CA)** will scale its Universal Canister System to store, transport, and permanently dispose of nuclear waste, supporting advanced nuclear deployment and reducing long-term costs. SCALEUP Ready is ARPA-E’s latest initiative to accelerate technologies from its portfolio toward market adoption.
The program was allocated $50 million dollars for the fiscal year 2025 and has received an additional $50 million dollars for 2026. SCALEUP Ready allows teams to apply on their own timelines. Applicants may request pre-submission discussion and use a self-assessment tool to evaluate their readiness.

_Selection for award negotiations is not a commitment by DOE to issue an award or provide funding. Before funding is issued, DOE and the applicants will undergo a negotiation process, and DOE may cancel negotiations and rescind the selection for any reason during that time. _
