The AI2050 Early Career Fellows program supports bold and ambitious work on difficult challenges as well as promising opportunities in AI. Fellows receive funding plus non-monetary support, such as connections to stakeholders to help them amplify impact. The program selects 15-20 early-career researchers around the world annually through a rigorous process.
Research is framed by the central question: 'It's 2050. AI has turned out to be hugely beneficial to society. What happened?'
Recent cohorts have included researchers across computer science, philosophy, economics, political science, earth sciences, and humanities working on AI safety, AI policy, fairness, AI for science, sociotechnical AI, and human-AI interaction. The 2025 round awarded $18M across 25 fellows.
