Scholarship - Epilepsy Chicago All of our services are free. Services Scholarship Opportunities Annual Scholarships are awarded to individuals with epilepsy who will be attending an academic institution of higher learning, including college, vocational and graduate school. Eligibility requirements differ for the two scholarships.
Scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic school year James Davies Scholarship Award The James Davies Scholarship is an award of $5,000 that will provide financial support for the pursuit of higher education to students living with epilepsy. These students must demonstrate a strong commitment to their education and perseverance in overcoming the obstacles epilepsy may present.
This scholarship is in honor of the late James Davies, a long-time advocate for people with epilepsy, who worked for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago for over 30 years. The application is open to graduating high school seniors, and all full-time students currently enrolled in college, vocational, and graduate school for the 2025-26 academic school year. The applicant must have a diagnosis of epilepsy and reside in Illinois.
Past recipients are invited to apply and will need to complete one additional essay question to demonstrate how the winner has used the scholarship funding to further the awareness of epilepsy on campus. The deadline for the 2026 James Davies Scholarship Award has passsed.
Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Scholarship Award The recipient of the Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship will be a student living with epilepsy and seizures, who exhibits a strong commitment to her/his education and perseverance in eliminating the obstacles epilepsy and seizures may present.
The scholarship is a $3,000 award per academic year, renewable for up to four (4) years, provided the recipient remains a student in good standing. The scholarship was established in memory of Sara Stubblefield, who passed away from Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) in 2011 at the age of 36.
Sara was a passionate advocate for others with epilepsy in both her life and career, earning a Masters in Social Work and working for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois for ten years prior to her death. The applicant must be a college-bound or career/technical school-bound high school senior residing in the state of Illinois. He/she must have epilepsy/seizure disorder and be under a physician’s care.
The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship is funded by the Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. All information provided in this application is confidential and will be used solely for determination of scholarship award. The application deadline for the 2026 scholarship is March 31, 2026 .

It can be music, poetry, visual arts, a short film… the sky’s the limit! The application is open to graduating high school seniors and students who have applied to and are ultimately accepted to attend an academic institution beginning in the 2025-2026 academic school year. The applicant must also have a diagnosis of epilepsy and reside in Illinois.
