Apply for Grants or Scholarships - The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida Apply for Grants or Scholarships Competitive Community Grantmaking The majority of our open competitive grantmaking falls into two main categories: Capacity Building and Program Support. Any 501c3 in our service area (Duval, Clay, Baker, St.
Johns, Nassau and Putnam counties) may apply for EITHER a Capacity Building OR a Program Support grant in any given year. Please note: There is a special application for nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of less than $200,000 to apply for either of these competitive grants with an application process designed especially for small organizations.
The Community Foundation also accepts grant applications in other focus areas where donors have requested that we oversee grantmaking decisions or where we have an established initiative with a funding source. This fall, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida is launching its first-ever grantee portal, a one-stop shop for nonprofits seeking support, as part of our commitment to exceptional service. The portal offers nonprofits immediate access to information about past grants from a variety of funding sources at the Foundation. Importantly, all grant applications starting in November 2025 will be exclusively available in the portal.

The OpenAI Foundation's People-First AI Fund provides unrestricted grants to U.S.-based nonprofit and community organizations to strengthen civil society in the age of AI. The fund focuses on three areas: Community Support Services, Community Arts & Cultural Organizations, and Community Journalism & Media. Its inaugural round delivered approximately $40.5 million in unrestricted grants to 208 nonprofits across the United States, with an additional $9.5 million in board-directed grants, for a $50 million total commitment. Grants are unrestricted, allowing recipients to apply funds where they are most needed. Future rounds are anticipated.
The GitLab Foundation's AI for Economic Opportunity Fund, run in partnership with OpenAI, awards demonstration grants to nonprofits using AI to measurably improve income growth and economic mobility for low-income populations worldwide. Selected organizations receive $250,000 in catalytic funding to prototype and demonstrate progress, six months of cohort-based technical support from OpenAI engineers and advisors, API credits, mentorship, and eligibility for scaling grants from partner philanthropies. The latest $4 million round funded 16 U.S.-based nonprofits, with the demonstration phase running February through August 2026 and culminating in a Demo Day at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters. The foundation has stated that applications for future funding opportunities will open in summer 2026.
