Schumann Fund for New Jersey advances ideas and opportunities to empower low-income children, families, and communities of color to thrive. We invest in non-profit organizations rooted in Essex County and statewide that work to advance racial and economic equity.
We do this work by investing in non-profit organizations that prioritize the following impact areas: Foster affordable homes, economic mobility, and healthy, resilient communities for children and families. Support low-income children and families of color to thrive through opportunities in early childhood development and youth education.
Advance reforms in systems affecting children and youth, such as the child welfare, juvenile justice, and immigration systems, to support racial equity and youth justice. The Schumann Field Trip New Jersey Funds is a grant from The Schumann Fund for New Jersey that funds school field trips to arts and cultural venues, historical landmarks, nature preserves, science institutions, and college campuses for students in underserved communities. Grants of up to $1,500 per academic year are available on a rolling basis to all Essex County public, charter, and nonprofit private pre-K through 12 schools where more than 65% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, as well as nonprofit organizations serving Essex County that are current Schumann Fund grantees. Reimbursement requires submission of invoices at least two weeks before the trip.
Schumann Field Trip New Jersey Grant is sponsored by Community Foundation of New Jersey (in partnership with Schumann Fund for New Jersey). This grant funds trips to arts and cultural organizations, historical landmarks, nature preserves, science institutions, and college tours for schools in Essex County and current grantees of the Schumann Fund for New Jersey.
The Homeless Youth Program is a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services that funds services for homeless and at-risk youth across Illinois. Administered through the Office of Community and Positive Youth Development, it supports nonprofit organizations delivering shelter, outreach, and support services to young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Eligible applicants are Illinois-based nonprofits with demonstrated capacity to serve youth. Awards range from $100,000 to $800,000 per year under CSFA number 444-80-0711. This is a FY 2026 funding opportunity with an application deadline of May 21, 2025.
Community Investment Tax Credit Program (CITC) is a grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development that provides state tax credit allocations to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, enabling them to attract private donations from individuals and businesses. Donors contributing $500 or more to approved projects receive tax credits equal to 50% of their contribution.
